A very close friend has a 2006 XLR, it has been in the dealership for over 40 days on several seperate visits. The problem(s) involves the engine pinging and then the loss of power. The dealership has even had a tech ride around in the car (for several hours)with the owner with an instrument which detected the occurrence and associated computer miscues. The owner is at wits end. Has anyone else had simular problems or heard of them?

Re: XLR help
My guess would be a bad ECM (computer) but hoepfully the dealer would have swappped this out by now. I had a Lincoln that did the same thing and they could never capture the code. Even drove around for a week with monitoring equipment hooked up to it. They finally agreed to swap out the control module the day before Lemon Law kicked in and that fixed it. If he hasn't mentioned lemon law yet he should, I think 40 days, even in separate visits would qualify in any state.
Are there any codes set?
Does your friend use Premium fuel?
I have heard of water intrusion into some harnesses affecting the connection at the ECM. I doubt the ECM itself is bad unless this connection problem exists.
What part of the country are you located in?
If you are near DC you could bring it to us and I will look at it myself.
Definitely need more information on this concern to find a resolution.
