Door Rattle Problems - What is the Problem & What is the Solution?

I have taken my 2008 XLR-V in 3-times to the Cadillac dealership regarding a constant door rattle problem that was initially on the driver's side door but now is occuring on the passenger side door as well.

They have not been able to solve the issue in 3 attempts.

This is becoming very annoying and should not be happening for such an expensive vehicle.

I've read in Corvette C6 forums that many of them have the same issues and that surpringly for many, it was the door's strike plate that was loose and vibrating.

Their fix was to either spot weld it together or replace it with a new strike plate.

Does anyone know what the problem is and what the fix is?

    Thanks in advance!

I don't recall seeing this problem here, or on any of the other XLR forums. Can you jiggle the striker on the door by hand? Other than removing the inner door panel and doing an in-depth inspection to check the window lift mechanism and wiring harnesses, there isn't much else to rattle around in there. Since the striker gets the most physical abuse, it would be a logical first check.

    Hi ccclarke!

Thanks for your input into my problem.
The rattle seems to be coming from the upper part of the door panel at the base of the glass.

The striker could be loose and vibrating from the inside but it appears tight and secure on the outside.
I guess I'll have to remove the door panels and investigate myself.

I thought that this may have been a common problem with XLR /XLR-V owners but apparently not.

    P.S.,

You always have been a positive and extremely knowledgeable contributor to the forums.
Will you be attending the V-Series meet at Santana Row in San Jose on Saturday morning April 21st?
    I realize it would be a bit of a drive (150 miles / 2:30 hour drive one-way).
It would be great if you could be there!

I have been to Eldorado Hills and to Red Hawk Casino once.

I have seen this before where the door panel is not fully secured into the door with the retainers and also the metal bracket on the panel is rubbing the door itself. Hope that helps.

I have seen this before both the door panel being loose and the metal bracket on the panel rubbing the door, hope that helps.

    Thanks for your input.
It does sound like there's a metal bracket that's rattling at the top of the panel (at the base of the window when it's all the way up).
I'll have to check on it when I remove the door panels.
