XLR Grilles convert to V style

I love the look of the XLR V grille on the regular XLR but see that no-one has changed the lower Grille to the full width V style too. Can this be done with the factory parts? I just bought a 2006 XLR and just ordered the factory upper Grille to convert but did not order the lower one also. I think I may be missing something about the fit so I did not order the lower one yet. The aftermarket one only covers the middle section of the lower grille and I do not like the look. Also, I do not see that anyone purchased the upper V grille from GM parts for the regular XLR, only the aftermarket one. Is there a problem with fitting the GM Factory part to the regular XLR? I ordered it and now wonder if it was the right thing. Any hints on installation?

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

The V doesn't have the radar-cruise control and can use the full width lower grill.

On a standard XLR the full-width grill won't fit do to the radar sensors.

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

The adaptive cruise control won't function through the steel grille that you get on the V. If you change it from the plastic lens to the steel grille for looks your cruise control will be worthless.

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

OK I am clear on the lower grille but I want to be sure if I will be OK with the upper "V" grille using the GM Factory part. Everyone else seems to have the aftermarket grille.

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

I would suspect that they are interchangable, however I don't know for sure.
It won't affect anything like the lower grille would.
You have to remove the front fascia to replace that, I have removed a couple of an XLR but never had to take one off of a V.

Hi march, replaced mine with the E&G grille and I think it looks a lot better than the stock grille.

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

Your XLR looks fantastic. I really like your colour combination. My XLR was used so I compromised with infrared/ebony.

Do you know if there is any difference between the GM factory V grille and the aftermarket E&G V grille? I have read many of your posts and really appreciate your support of this forum. I read you had some difficulty installing the E&G V grille do you have any tips for me to make this install easy?

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

That is very helpful - hope to get the new grille soon I'll post how I made out and will try myself. I have a tool that may work it is an upholstery tool which is a screwdriver with a V to remove trim.

Thank you march,
you followed my posts pretty well! Yes, I`ve had a hard time to get the standard grille out, went to a body shop and they offered me wo choices
1. to brake the lower clips of the old grille
2. to not brake them but then the front bumper have to be taked off.

I decided to brake the clips and the grille was out in 3 minutes.

Installing of the new one was about 30 minutes and no problems there!

The only difference is, the standard V grille got the wreath and crest right on the mesh - the E&G grille requires the wreath and crest of the old grille and it sticks on a black plate, you can see on my photo.

I hope I could help

Hans

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

Thanks again.

I see in the photos your calipers are red - did you use a special paint?

Yes, it`s a special brake-caliper paint. The body shop at my GM dealer did it and I think it looks great.
What do you think about the original XLR V wheels on my car?

Re: XLR Grilles convert to V style

The V wheels are very nice. I tend to like to add authentic GM parts to my GM cars so that is a very good change in my opinion. I know they are painted but look very bright. I have not seen an XLR V up close yet. Are they metallic?
