Lexus IS-F
5.0 liter 400hp V8 in a Lexus IS-300. 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. 8 speed auto.

Looks fun, love the new IS styling (inside and out), but it's still a overgrown Corolla to me...

Oh yeah...take a look that the exhaust

Saw it at the show. Interestingly I think the current model is 5.2 - not a lot slower to 60.

That 'quad' exhaust is bizarre.
But at least they are up front about this aspect:

[2] 18-in or 19-in tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires. Tire life may be substantially less than 15,000 miles, depending on driving conditions.

Re: Looks like Lexus wants to compete (IS-F in 2008)

Click the "more info" button, and it says "more than 400 hp."

Exhausts are silly IMHO.

Wheelbase would seem to indicate that there's not going to be a lot of room in the back (okay, my ignorance is showing ... does it have a backseat?).

Bring it on ... I'll have a maggie by then.

The 0-60 in "below" 4.9 seconds...

I suppose that had to "better" Cadillac's "0-60 in under 5" seconds commercials.

The interesting thing is they will come in behind the others HP wise. But at least they are entering the ring. Toyota can build some fast engines, guess they starting a little behind to give them room to build.

I sense a lot of rivalry between Toyota (Lexus) and BMW in the next decade.

They had to figure out some way to get their money back out of NASCAR engine developement costs.

Yeah, considering the fact I don't think Toyota has ever built an OHV V8 in all its history.....
