Re: CTS vs TL

I'm in the same predicament you are, only I'm looking at the six speed version of either. But I think I am going with the CTS for it's rear wheel drive ballance and more striking design. I've driven the automatic version of both, and I think the CTS feels tighter and more sure footed when cornering.

The TL is a very, very nice car, though. Tought to pass that Honda reliability. It's not so tough to pass on the 700.00 timming belt change every 80k (CTS uses a chain which never needs to be replaced)

A difference of $4500 isn't that much when it comes to what you really want. Factor it over 4 years and you're looking at $100/month or 3 bucks a day. Would you pay $3 a day for the feeling you get when you see your car and love the styling? Would you enjoy the head turning glances you get and compliments you receive? Not everyone really cares how other feel, but I know I feel good when I get people looking at the rims of my 87 Brougham.

I think a test drive of both should be up front and centre. TL is front wheel drive so steering will feel different. Not better or worse, but probably different. This also means that the circle you can drive in the CTS is quite a bit smaller because of its rear-wheel drive.

Good luck!

Re: CTS vs TL

If you dont care about FWD or RWD....I say get the TL...I myself think it is a better looking car and one that is better all around......I also feel some people make a big deal with the FWD RWD debate.....I once always choose RWD.....but for an everyday driving car that you want to feel comfortable in and be able to handle pretty well in the city FWD should suit anyone best..........but this is coming from someone who wants to have a Ford Diesel in a city..

Re: CTS vs TL

One thing, it sounds better to say "I drive a Cadillac" than "I drive an Acura".

Re: CTS vs TL

Torque steer is also an issue with the TL. I hear its worse with the manual... but better with the automatic.

You'll love the stabillity you get with a RWD car, that you cant get with a FWD.

Re: CTS vs TL

Motor Trend recently did a comparison of the CTS vs the TL (and the Saab 9-3 and Infiniti G35). The CTS came in second and the TL in third. They didn't have very nice things to say about the TL aside from it's looks. The CTS was just the opposite, they raved about everything and only held it back because of it's polarizing looks.
You may want to read what they had to say:

Re: CTS vs TL

CONGRATS! Gotta share some photos now. Start a new thread so we can share the love.

Man, I love the CTS. It always catches my eye -- artfully designed without looking wimpy. Do your first oil change at 500 miles, then the next at 1500 miles, then the remainder every 3000 milles/3 months.

The factory might say 6-10k, 4-7 months, but I think thats crazy, and theyre in the business of selling new cars.
