Ok, what's faster X-11 Citation FWD or my Chevette Scooter with nitrous. Oh, btw, my Chevette is a manual.

Oh god....I dunno. I wanna say the Fifth Avenue, mainly because it's a bit lighter, but who knows with cars like those.

Re: '83-'89 Chrysler Fifth Avenue vs. '86-'89 Fleetwood Brougham

I would have to give points to the Fifth Ave for having the 318, a longer lived and probably more reliable engine than the 307. Other than that, Chryslers of that era just plain suck with squeaks and rattles and clunky suspensions.

The rear-drive M-bodies were decent for their time... nothing impressive but nothing horrible. I can say though that the torqueflite 727 was damn near indestructible.

I love the interior in those 5th avenues, especially those seats. And the stand up pentastar hood ornament!

I wonder which one is slower. Maybe the 5th is because it's loaded down with all of that faux crystal. I still love those things though (and yes I do like the crystal.)

I had an 89 fifth avenue it was tripple black. I think it was around 20 k or so and totally loaded. But all in all it was a Dodge Diplomat with extra goodies.

Re: '83-'89 Chrysler Fifth Avenue vs. '86-'89 Fleetwood Brougham

Isn't that the one w/the "Corinthian" leather -- that Ricardo Montalban would hawk?

I believe though, that the 5th Aves were one of the first "talking" cars -- which to a 12 year old, was VERY cool!

My grandmother had an 84 New Yorker Turbo FWD, and it had the talking box, also. She loved it, but one of my uncles hated it.

5th Ave. would beat a 307 Brougham hands down... I've owned a couple 5ths. The 318's were fuel injected in the later years. Damn good cars, too. I think they all were owned by old blue collar men and they all have 64K miles. LOL They never seem to wear out, they just ugly away!

Those Chrysler four banger turbos were an embarrassment to put in the 5th Aves. First time I was in a new one (maybe 1990ish?), I was so excited to see what it could do. It was so pretty and classy (to a 20 year old at the time). Hammered it down and it sounded like a garbage disposal...waited....waited.... more lag.... waited, waited some more and vroom - it hit 60....... in what seemed like 13 or 14 seconds.

Back to question at hand, I would also have to say the 5th Ave as decribed would take the Brougham. I too am amused at the comparison. Makes me wonder if my 1988 Chevy Nova CL with the 1.8 litre 4 cylinder could have taken a 1988 Horizon with the air cleaner cover inverted.

Re: '83-'89 Chrysler Fifth Avenue vs. '86-'89 Fleetwood Brougham

A rose by any other name, is still a 1976 Plymouth Volare. The textbook definition of why 70s vintage Chrysler products are still hovering around used car lot prices.

The only LA engine worth anything is the 340. The only reason Chrysler stuck with a 318 is because they couldn’t afford the tooling to de-bore it down to a five liter like the rest of the world.
The only 318 ever fuel injected in a passenger car was the never working 81 Imperial. (Though I did meet one guy at Hershey last year that claimed to have the world’s only working example) Carter carbs until 84, Rochester after that.

The 727 is a fine transmission, but lack of an overdrive made it obsolete even by 1983 standards. A car 3/4 the size with 3/4 the gas mileage? No thank you.
