Shelby GT 500...the car that makes Z06 owners feel insecure. | When you say comparable to a Corvette you mean the base model and it still lost in the 1/4 mile. A little modification to the base model corvette and the GT500 driver will be
The people on the Mustang forums are bailing and buying corvette's, that has to tell you something.

Shelby GT 500...the car that makes Z06 owners feel insecure. | A stock Corvette was matching the GT500 in acceleration and absolutely destroying it on a road course...

I am a true Caddy man I love my Eldorado ETC. Its a fairly quick car in my opion. My son drives a 05 Mustang GT we have raced a hundred times at the track and to this day he has never beat me not 1 time but he has a friend with a 07 gt500 and man I will tell you that car is fast he beat me so bad all I could say to him was yeah you got a fast ass car. I have never seen a v run but they better be really fast to beat a gt500 and keep in mind I am a caddy man I would love to see one kick the shi* out of a gt500. My god they are down right bad. There was not a Z05 down there but he made the vett owners shut really fast. Has anybody here seen the 2 ( CAddy-v Gt500) lock up? |

I own a 2008 Mustang GT (stock other than a CAI and retuned) and a 2000 Seville STS (not quite a V, I know) and the Mustang is so much faster than the STS that it's not even a comparison.
The Mustang's biggest problem is the same as the Chargers and GTO's - absolutely worthless traction off the line. At the track, with street tires I either launch with the traction control on or roll into 1st gear slowly and my 60' times are always over 2.0. My stock GT runs in the high 8's in the 1/8th.
With slicks and a good driver a stock GT can run high 12's in the 1/4, but with street tires it's hopeless.
The Corvette is an all around better car than the Mustang in every way (except price), but I do like the styling of the new body Mustangs. |

This was on stock tires: 2008 Ford Mustang GT
Vehicle Curb Weight: 3,540 lbs.
0 to 60 mph: 5.1 seconds
1/4 Mile Time: 13.8 seconds
Shaving off almost a full second would be impressive but not sure it's attainable. It would have been nice if they would have listed the trap speed in the article but they did not. http://mustangs.about.com/od/modelye...s-challeng.htm |

It would have been nice if they would have listed the trap speed in the article but they did not. http://mustangs.about.com/od/modelye...s-challeng.htm | Bone stock '07 GT with auto trans and 3.31 gears (not the 3.55 and 5-speed) with a Ford cold air kit and tune, 12.98 on stock tires. http://blogs.musclemustangfastfords....uto/index.html
Also, the Summer 2008 magazine Mustang Performance had an article where Justin Burcham took a bone stock '08 GT (less than 1500 miles on the odo) and installed an aluminum driveshaft, lightweight tubular lower radiator support with a sway bar delete, and DOT slicks with skinnies up front. Just by dropping some weight and using sticky tires he had the bone stock GT running 12.51 @ 108mph and pulling the front left tire off the ground.
The main issue I have at the track with my '08 GT is traction. With a little weight reduction, a little better breathing intake and good tires the otherwise stock GT's can easily run mid 12's, provided the driver can consistently drive. |

Back when I had my 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V all the mag's had it running 15.6's but yet I got mine to run a 15.1 | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
