Parking proximity sensor when stopped at light

while stopped at a light or a stop sign I get the warning display of proximity sensor as if the car thinks I'm parking and getting too close to car in front of me.
But,Neither me nor car in front of me is moving? I'm at a dead spot for a while before this even happens, and it'll randomly go off and on a few times.

ATS at dealer now and "dealer cannot replicate"

anyone else have this? He seemed surprised as he had not had this complaint yet.

One guess that I can propose for this is the exhaust vapors from the car in front of you making it appear that there is something that is appearing and going away. If you are in the North, this could possibly what what you're seeing. If not, then I'm not sure. Again, I just work on the CUE system, and this is a different component, so I am only make a hypothesis here.

Re: Parking proximity sensor when stopped at light

I had this happen this morning (Premium with Driver Assistance Package). I was stopped at a red light with a car 6' in front of me for maybe 10 seconds before the front proximity alert showed and the seat vibrated. It happened a couple different times at different red lights. BUT, we were getting blowing snow and almost freezing rain conditions in Toronto at the time so I just ignored it. (I did wonder if it might try to brake at the "wrong" time, but that did not happen.)

This happens to me every once in a while when it is snowing/freezing/sleeting out. It will work fine in that weather until you let ice accumulate on your sensor (which I believe is behind the Cadillac emblem). When that happens you'll get a false alarm. It's pretty obvious to tell it's a false because it will immediately jump to 4 bars and vibrating your seat instead of gradually incrementing the number of bars lit up.

I don't think there's anything that they can do about this. It's just a matter of the sensor reacting to the ice accumulating on your grill.

Happened to me 2 times again yesterday using a Dealer Loaner ATS.
Was snowing and I guess that's what's setting it off falsely. No ice on the grill.
But still, really, doesn't work in the snow?
Fortunately there's a button on the dash to simply turn the thing off.

Just thought about this more. Sensor for park assist might not be behind Cadillac emblem. That might be the long range sensor for ACC (as the emblem changes when Driver Assist Package is added). So the park assist sensors might be on the bumper somewhere.

traditionally that is correct ... ACC radar behind the emblem and parking sensors spread out in the bumper

This has happened to me too yesterday - stopped at light and no car in front. First time I thought it was the people crossing the street in front of me, but then another time "I believe" nothing in front of my car - it wasn't snowing either. Will keep an eye on this issue. I recall someone stating that his car stopped automatically when backing up against a pylon but not when he placed such in front of his XTS as it should. I have not tested this yet on my car but is this perhaps related to this issue, i.e. could it be an intermittent problem. Of course the warning doesn't mean the car would stop if still moving as it should? While ice/sleet accumulated on the sensors might be the trigger, I would assume than it would be on continuesly and not only when stopped at a red light.

Well I think there's a few factors in play here. If it's the Park Assist that is acting up, then it will only happen at slow speeds because I'm pretty sure that system is only activated when the car is moving very slowly. It just isn't designed to be useful at driving speeds so it's probably not on or being looked at by the system which explains why we don't get false alarms while driving.

The reason I think it's snow/ice/etc on the sensors is because sometimes in the same weather conditions that produce this anomaly... I also lose my adaptive cruise control. When I go to enable it I get an error "Adaptive Cruise is temporarily unavailable." This has happened 3 times since I got the car in October. I'm not too upset about it because I do live in Syracuse, NY and get some of the most snowy, icy, and all around miserable weather imaginable. The systems work 99% of the time and Cadillac can't design everything for the frozen tundra of Upstate New York. At least that's my feeling. After the car is in the garage overnight, the systems work fine in the morning. It's just coming home from work when it's snowing and the temp is below 10 that seems to cause this.

    @ danscrim

I'll be watching this issue, although, being retired I avoid driving in really bad weather unless I have to.

As to the Park Assist aspect I agree with you as to when driving at normal speed, but when I came to a stop in front of a light I had slowed already down to less than walking speed before coming slowly to a complete stop so wouldn't Park Assist at that stage come into effect? Anyway, based on posting by someone who tested this, it only worked backing up. I did note then when parking in my garage going very slowly (not too much room lenghwise and I have to closely watch the red bar) I did once hit an about 30 inch high (soft) bag of of fertilizer in front of the wall and car did not apply the brake by itself.

I did notice that the Lane Departure issue got lost sometime which I certainly can see when the lane lines are covered with snow.

    Happened to me today.

Was first at the light. No car in front of me. My seat buzzed.

I am guessing perhaps ice on the front grill, but who knows.
