Cadillac CUE Nominated for AOL Autos’ Technology of the Year Award
Since January, AOL Autos and its board of judges – comprised of editors from AOL Autos, Autoblog and Engadget – have been working to find the best of the best in auto technology. With over 30 nominees in the areas of Connectivity, Active Safety and Telematics, AOL Autos have identified two finalists for each category. GM’s Cadillac CUE system was selected as a finalist for the Technology of the Year award in the category of telematics.
“With hardly any traditional buttons, the [Cadillac CUE] system takes design inspiration from smartphones like the iPhone, tablets like the iPad and Internet browsers. While we were shocked initially at the contrast with Cadillac's previous vehicles and systems, we quickly warmed to it after we synched our phones to CUE, which incidentally stands for Cadillac-User-Experience,” wrote AOL Autos.
Cadillac CUE, a comprehensive in-vehicle experience that merges intuitive design with auto industry-first controls and commands for information and media, debuted earlier this year in the 2013 XTS luxury sedan and is also featured in the all-new 2013 ATS sport sedan.
CUE features the first automotive use of capacitive touch – the use of electrodes to sense the conductive properties of objects, such as a finger. It is a technology used by many of today’s most popular handheld mobile devices. Other key aspects of CUE are natural speech recognition, Bluetooth connectivity for up to 10 devices and a motorized concealed storage compartment.
Read more about what AOL Autos thinks about the Cadillac CUE system here.
"... CUE is upgradable over the life of the car, which is the way of the world now. Thank goodness. We also found the natural-language speech recognition worked very well. That's not always the case with these systems. We called out a dozen different songs on our phone and it worked 100% of the time. We synchronized phone contacts, and the hands-free dialing worked perfectly.
We believe the following: When a prospective Cadillac buyer sits down and starts going through the system, they will have to be ready to spend some time parked in their driveway learning to get used to it. That's okay. Hey, you just spent $40K plus for this car, or in the mid-$30ks if you just bought the ATS with CUE. Spend some time getting to know it stationary, rather than going 80 mph. In a few weeks, you will feel comfortable and find that you are as at one with your CUE as you are with your smartphone of choice. At least we think so."

It's a great system for sure, but in my case, not perfect.
Having issues with my iPod and the playlists. When I select a certain song within a playlist, another plays instead. Taking the car to the dealer to have it looked at.
