Recently i discovered that my blower motor had stopped working and was in need of replacement. I searched around online to see the best way of going at it, and it wasn't good. There is a slight lack of room which is needed to physically pull the motor out. Some people have gotten around this by:
. - unbolting the engine and jacking it up with a floor jack
. - Using a Ratchet strap and forcing the engine forward 1-2"
. - Using a Pry-Bar to pull the engine forward
. - Using brute force and most often cracking the housing of the old and new blower motor
Now i don't know if this has any effect on the performance of the new blower motor assembly, but i found a MUCH easier way of replacing this specific part.
Part One: Remove the old blower motor
1. Remove cross bar connected to Strut towers
2. Mark or label all sparkplug wires and remove them from the coil packs
3. Remove Coil packs and rear sparkplug wires
4. remove the three bolts on the back side of the Blower Motor (Not the 5 around the edges)
5. Remove the large metal plate you just unbolted
6. Remove the 5 surrounding bolts on the perimeter.
7. Pull the old motor out (Becasue you pulled off the large metal bracket in the back, the motor with fan and the seperate housing now come apart for easy extraction)
Part 2: Install new Blower Motor
NOTE: I do not know how if this works for the replacement motors from GM. I bought a used motor off of eBay. The only difference i know of between the original part and the new replacement part is that the new part only uses 3 bolts to hold the Motor in place, not the original 5
1. Unbolt the 3 bolts on the back of the new Blower Motor and remove the large metal plate
2. disassemble the Blower Motor into 3 parts
. -Fan/motor
. -Housing
. -Backing plate (Large metal plate which was just removed)
3. Insert fan first, fallowed by the housing
4. Insert bolts through the backing plate, through the housing, into the fan/motor assembly and everything will be back 100% Back together
5. Tighten down the 5 bolts on the housing of the Motor
6. Reattach Plug wires and coil packs
7. Reattach strut support
8. Miller Time
NOTE: This is a good time to replace your spark Plugs. Everything is all clear in the back and makes access to the rear sparkplugs 1000x easier!
