Re: Do you think the value of our cars will go up over time?

I'd say if it does, it won't be anytime soon. And that's IF it does. Cars like the 2003-04 Shelby cobra actually came with a signed plaque, stating #abc out of xyz. It was a limited production car as ours is but there was actual accountability and it was destined to be a collector car.

Also the 2002 eldorado collector series. There was a run of under 2000 of those, and there is a plaque on the dashboard on the passenger's side stating what number your car is in the run.

Ours just quietly didn't sell many and so it would seem became rare by accident? Maybe one day down the line.

    ----------

I think it will take the "V" series cars becoming "legends" in the way say the M3 is a legend. Now all the m3 predecessors are getting up in value. Yes, the older ones are believed to be the most pure and fun to drive but there's also a "cool" factor of having the grandfather and great grandfather of what is now a car that has achieved "legendary" status - the m3.

I also think that the future of "collector cars" is threatened with the newer technology. For example, in 100 years from now when say the ATS-V (which obviously isn't out yet) is a collector car, what's the owner going to do when his CUE nav screen blanks out? Will he be able to get a replacement unit?

Same for the Denso unit in our car, as well as other more sophisticated parts on the car.

That's a whole other topic though.

Personally, I don't think it's going to go up, but I don't believe it'll depreciate at anything close to it has been.

When I think of the STSV, I think of low production sport cars like the SHO Taurus, Grand National, and Turbo Trans Am. They had low production numbers, were outclassed by more traditional sports cars, but still have an iconic/timeless essence to them.

The difference is that these cars were solely known for their rarity and performance. The STSV adds another element with its high-tech bells and whistles. And like Guy pointed out, this benefit will likely turn into a detriment after they've become obsolete or irreparable. I mean, were already behind by not having an auxiliary jack for an iPod.

I'll be going into computer engineering and I should be alive for another 30 to 50 years as long as things go smooth so I can help fix stuff

For your car to be "Collectible" it will also need VERY low miles. I know mine won't be collectible with 89K on it right now.

69K on mine. One of the lower mile 06s I've seen looking around on cars and autotrader.

When the time comes (in many decades) and there are only a few cars like yours left, it will go up in value. But I wouldn't wait for it. Drive it, maintain it, and pass it on if you feel it's that special.

I store mine over the winter. But during the nice months, I rod the hell out of it. Why have a V if your foot isn't through the firewall all the time?
