    Who Steals License Plates

Needless to say someone stole my plates. Not sure why. They took my custom V rear plate bracket as well.

Besides that being a complete dick move, they could have stolen my wife's plates off her Accord that was parked right next to my car. They all managed to rip out the rubber bracket on the rear where the plate screws into. Anyone have any idea what part number this is or where I can get one.

    Needless to say I'm pissed.

    They're called license plate grommets.

I'm sure a local dealer will have some on hand.

And sorry about the theft. Sucks. I get angry when people lift up my windshield wiper blade to put a flyer under it so I can imagine you're pissed. I don't like people putting their hands on my car.

    Re: Who Steals License Plates

That's pretty common around my area... People steal plates to go in and out of Mexico. Obviously not to enjoy the tourist attractions. My buddy from work got his stolen and they were found on a stolen vehicle same make and model. Could be why they chose your car and not your wife's Honda. Most likely not a V but they could be on a stolen STS for now. Just be sure to report the plates stolen right away.
I have had my registration sticker stolen myself but never my plate.

Damn, sorry to hear that dude! I guess it was only a license plate though so thankfully it's nothing too serious.

Somebody used the registration number off my airplane for all kinds of nefarious purposes, from beating airports out of landing fees to drug smuggling. After I reported that I was getting dunning notices and threatening letters from all over the southwest the feds put out notices and eventually the bogus plane was found abandoned near Phoenix. Luckily enough everybody in aviation around here knows me so I had very few problems where ever I went.

    Re: Who Steals License Plates

Yup, lots of reasons people steal plates. It isn't a huge problem where I live, but I do know people that have had theirs taken. Here is what I bought to reduce the chances...

    http://www.platesafelocks.com/

They are a little expensive and I didn't buy them as much for the theft reduction factor as much as aesthetics. I got really tired of the generic screws and the crappy little chrome plated plastic covers that peel and turn green. I'm proud of the appearance of my car, right down to the license plate hardware. This doesn't make my plates "theft-proof" but it sure makes stealing them a lot more difficult than all the other choices a criminal has.

Yup, expiration stickers. Illinois got somewhat wise on this a few years back and actually prints out the plate# on the expiration sticker too.
