Re: Hello from Jax, FL
PBM on the G8 is not the same as Black Raven or Black Ice. Why the N* platform vs. LS? The target demo of the car. Back in 2006, asking $80k - $90k, Caddy was targeting this car at a demographic that doesn't want a "hot-rod" camming, muscle-car engine. They want refinement, poshness, polish, and smoothness. Other cars the STS-V was competing against also ascribed to the same demo. Kinda hard to sell the car, when someone cross-shopping say a silky smooth AMG Benz, just got out of that car, and into the Caddy all while it's rocking, snorting, and loping away with it's LSx motor, now is it. The LSx motor isn't the answer to every platform GM has! It's would fill the void in a majority of them yes, but not EVERY one.

I have owned both a white hot 09 G8 M6 GXP and a black raven 08 STS-V
The 2 cars are similar but very different
The G8 has a nice size and a feeling of brute force with very little refinement. STS-V is a more polished highway cruiser.
Both cars are very similar in exterior size but the G8 is larger inside with a lot more rear leg room.
The STS-V is much quieter inside and has a lot of features that are not available on the G8 like NAV, push button start, rear heated seats, heated steering wheel, blind spot detection, and many other creature comforts I can't think of at this time. The interior build and material quality is like night and day between the 2 that's where you start to see that one car was priced at $80,000 and the other was $40,000.
The STS-V is a much smoother accelerating car, it feels slower that the G8 which feels almost jerky due to its torque and throttle response.
The G8 GXP is holding its value much better than the STS-V.
The G8 has more modding potential and lot more power making potential.
The G8 GXP is available in a manual the STS-V is not.
They both get right around 15mpg with mixed driving.
I get many more compliments on the STS-V than I ever did on the G8 GXP
If I had to do it over again I would buy the STS-V 10 times out of 10 over the G8
I do miss some things from the G8 like the manual trans (sometimes) , the larger rear seats, the beautiful fender flares, but IMO the STS-V is more enjoyable and everyday livable car.
