    Unhappy Metal Shavings!

New owner of a 06 Sts V with 90k miles delivered yesterday from Illinois.I checked the oil and found metal shavings on the dip stick. It was a one owner car and is in very good shape inside and out.I guess my question is,is there anything else for me to check and how concerned should I be?

Drain it into a clean pan and see what ends up at the bottom.

Also, cut the filter open and look inside the pleats of the media. That will tell you if there is a problem.

Post pictures of what you find.

These are not known for bearing failures but that is what usually happens when you find metal shavings.

Get ready for the worst and hope for the best. Nothing good comes from metal in the oil.
Unfortunatly this isn't a run of the mill small block that you can just pull the heads off and start poking around to see what going on inside. There are some pretty good bore scopes out there that you could run through the oil drain to inspect the bottom end with... Not sure what else you can do though. Like Tim said, see what you find but still, not a good sign to find any metal in the oil.

Yeah Rod,The car is actually my dad's,and I pleaded to him to get an extended warranty but he didn't wantspend an extra 3k.I was looking for one myself but this just makes me more fond of my 96 Impala, you know less sensors and what not to worry about.Im to the point where I can't stand over engineered vehicles.

Does it still hold good oil pressure. 100 ish cold 45-60 at idel warm would be good to see. If the oil psi is good and no noise is comming from the engine. Flush the oil buy a good hd filter and drive it. What's done is done so just keep the oil Toped off and change it offten at least for a while. And just in joy the car.

As of now all is good.No noise or any other issues.Has been driving and enjoying the car.My dad is old school and had chevelles and impalas growing up,so going from a front wheel drive 2011 Dts to the V was just what he needed! He's happy so I'm happy.Gonna check that oil pressure though and see what it looks like.

Curious to know if the car has the D3 chrome intake & lowering springs, tinted windows, V-series shift knob and European amber tail lights. Traded mine in January with 90K - curious as to where it ended up. If so, car was in the dealer only a week before I traded it, and NEVER had any issues with metal shavings in the oil. Bit of a leaky RH valve cover, but that was it. Let me know.
