    2006 STS-V new owner

Wife has had a northstar SRX for the past 3yrs. We are having baby number 2 in Dec so I needed a bigger sedan than what I was currently driving. Just drove home from Texas to Atlanta my 06 STS-V. It has a lot of miles on it but the car had a factory extended warranty until July of this year. Car is in great shape both interior and exterior and mechanically. I am a aircraft mechanic and tend to be picky when it comes to my cars. Some things I want to take care of that aren't 100% to spec... one rear wheel is curbed, V logo on back the red is sun faded, heated steering wheel switch not working, voice command not recognizing anything, running bulb in headlight out, drivers door seal torn. I have been on this forum for several years and look to it for guidance before I repair something. I think I'll be spending a few hours a week now getting up to speed on the V. Sorry for the long introduction, just happy to have the new car and this resource, look forward to getting to know some of you in the future.

    Welcome.
    1. The heated steering wheels go out often it seem on the higher mileage cars there is no fix.
    2. The v badges faid they are $80 per. No after market ones available.
    3. The curbing might be able to be fixed buy a wheel repair shop. If not you can get aftermarket wheels cheep. Gm wheels are $500 + for one.
    4. I took the bulbs out in both my v,s and my 08 only had 7500 miles when I did it. I think they look cheep.
    5. Voice command only works it on star is active. 95% shore that's how it works.lo

    Re: 2006 STS-V new owner

I'm taking the car to get detailed one day this week. I'll take some good photos and post them after it's sparkling. I took the engine plastics off in prep for a good cleaning. Found I don't have any flow for the intercooler system. Going to do a jabco pump. On the fence about getting the wheel refurbished for $100 or getting a wheel off a wrecked V for $150 and having a full sized spare at home and extra TPS sensor. Thanks for the responses, crazy how much the V badges are, guess it's good to keep the posers from buying them. I think I have a platinum edition or do all v's have the full leather interior including the dash and doors?

Congrats on your new V, please add your info to the owners registry if you haven't done it yet. There are no trims in V they are all the same and yes all V's have leather on dash and doors. Voice command sucks on these cars you have to use exact keywords and even then it sketchy. The ones which work for me are Windows up and windows down.

Yep and with the car second guessing you and confirming that you do in fact want the windows up/down, you're there before the windows roll down. The buttons work pretty good.

Gave my info earlier today to the owners registry. Should I even check with the dealership about the voice update? Really not planning on activating onstar, just like the idea to ease the use of the navigation.

1madstsv how sure are you that you need onstar for the voice recognition. I'm pretty sure that is supposed to work even if you don't have onstar.

    ----------

Hitupolas I would get all updates if it was me but don't get excited about using voice recognition. You'll find that it's much easier to skip the headache of trying to get the damn thing to understand you. The vr sucks on this car is what I'm saying. Rented an xts. Excellent vr. I would go so far as to not even count it as a feature on this car.

I saw that too, but wasn't going to say anything. I appreciate their efforts, but I don't know how much they really help.
