It's usually best to stick with OEM. While Sachs are usually OEM on european cars and have proven themselves, I'd personally stick to the OEM ones. How big of a price difference is always a factor, and the OEM usually bolt right in with no hiccups. Granted we are talking about shocks here, it's not brain surgery.

I'm not familiar with the new STS suspensions as I haven't been into mine yet, but sometimes it is brain surgery. I replaced the struts on my 98 Aurora and have camber and caster issues with the aftermarket Monroe struts. I need to install a camber and caster kit to correct as the factory strut mount is non-adjustable. In time and extra parts it will likely cost me more in the end to have used the Monroe struts on the Aurora.

I did a little research on the web and found several complaints about non-OEM struts causing the same issue I'm having with the Aurora. The factory ones bolt in on the non-adjustable knuckle without issue, the Monroes I need to either use a camber bolt or elongate the upper strut mount point to allow some movement. It's no fun. If the STS uses a cartridge type of strut then it shouldn't be an issue, but on one where the mounting point is built into the strut body this could be an issue.

About a $100 per shock; a article stated the STS-V had SACH shocks.

Well if OEM is Sachs probably a good bet. I replaced the struts on a Volvo once and found the actual Volvo part number was like 150 dollars more than the cross referenced generic Sachs replacement. Per mfrs specs exact same unit. It does help to research the mfrs cross references.

Wow interesting. I'm at 58xxx. I guess my time is coming soon. Obvious difference when the struts went out?

Yes the front end doesn't feel as tight and over certain transitions its bouncy but the ride is still smooth and I still grip the curves.

It seems to be hit or miss with replacing the struts. I have lowering springs but other w/o have had to replace their struts as well, and many others who haven't.

How long have you had the springs? Mine are on order.

A lil over 30K, the look and handling much improved without sacrificing the ride quality, not sure why this was not the factory set-up.

Completely agree on the look aspect of it. Can't comment on the drive yet. Too much black space between tires and fenders.

Yeah I'm ready to close some wheel well gap myself. The only advantage is I can fit my jack under the car without having to drive onto a 2 X 4. I have plenty of wood blocks laying around. LOL

What I'm nervous about is this. I'm moving back to NYC in 9 months now and I'm gonna rent a uhaul with a flatbed trailer thing to hook up to the truck. Am I going to have clearance problems driving up on the ramp? Front lip, or bottoming out the undercarriage?
