    bye bye sts-v

just did a compression test on the car. all cyclinders are low. according to specs they shouldn't be running lower than 140psi, the highest I have is 120. two cyclinders are at 90. I know its the rings, we dropped small amount of oil in each cyclinder and they jumped to almost 200psi. the car is most likely going to be traded based on this information gathered today, however, does anyone know what kind of work is involved in replacing the rings on the pistons? any input would be appreciated, thanks yall!

Drop motor out bottom, remove heads and oil pan, swap rings, hone cylinders, reinstall. It's not that bad really.

I cant do the work tim and have alrdy spent the premium once to have it removed and have the seals replaced, WHICH will have to be done again if I decide to fix it.

    ----------

if the swap was that easy ryan, itd be done. looks like ill be dropping another LARGE amount on the car IF I decide to keep it. has anyone figured out the ls swap yet?

You won't have to replace any seals that were already done but labor is expensive.

No one has done an lsx swap that I know of. I know I could do it but that would be expensive too. I think it could be done with the stock wiring harness and computer repinned for the ls motor.

That Sucks. What do you think caused it? I thought our engines were bullet proof.

What symptoms prompted the compression test?

inconsistency, I would race one car one day then the next with completely different results. I knew something was up but the car wasn't doing anything that screamed anything out. so, called a friend he brought his test kit over and I have my answer. I slightly wonder if mine is the only one, I think im the only one that has done a compression test on it. lol

You'll like it. Such a fun car. I drove two before settling on the V. It was my 2nd choice.

I drove the isf today, great feel very tight car. only problem is finding one now. lol. I loved the caddy, as witnessed by the amount of time I have put into it. just time for something more reliable for me. I drive a lot and typically harder. i think the lexus will hold up better to me than the caddy did.

You can't go wrong with an IS-F. My best friend had one and sold it now that he has a family. I was amazed at the resale value of those things. He sold it about a year ago and still got 40k for it with 50k miles. This guy has always been lucky finding suckers though. Good luck in your search.
