I looked at the air cleaner assembly and kinda scratched my head. Looked at the owner's manual and found the statement that the air filter on the 4.4L engine is difficult and should be left to a pro. Really? It does look like a lot has to be taken out to get to it and it's a pretty big airbox but left to a dealer?
I couldn't find anything on the search here so I'm a little baffled by it.
There are 4 10mm bolts holding it together and once you take those out you can get to it. If I remember right there may be 1 or 2 other 10mm bolts hold it down but I can't remember. Not that hard just time comsuming. If you want to just replace the factory K&N makes a replacement or there are a few options for aftermarket air intakes.
Automobile(s): None at the moment. Maybe some day an SRX!

Wake, please let me know if you would like me to check my more technical resources to see if I can find any helpful information regarding your air filter concerns. I'm available via private message, and sending the last eight of your VIN would be very helpful!
