    Last Resort For Help

    "Engine Hot A/C Off"

I know this has been discussed here before, my mechanic cannot seem to figure out the issue. He has check all lines for leaks, thermostat replaced. The dealership refuses to look at it because the thermostat was not replaced by them, they clear the code, 3-4 hours later it comes back on... I don't know where else to turn for some advice for what might be causing this code to come up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

It was replaced less than a month ago, should be nothing wrong with the new 160º thermostat

If you put in a 160* you need to turn off code P0126. Also have him test the T-Stat for proper operating temps

Just because you "just bought" it do not mean there may not be something wrong with it.

We did test the thermostats operating temp from a cold start. We didn't mess with the code though, would I have to take it somewhere to get that done or should a shop have a tool to do that.

You would have to take to a shop that has a tuner to turn it off. I don't know if a Tech II can do that. But in CA you should not be triggering that anyway....... What code (PXXX) is it triggering?

I honestly don't know the code, This message comes up in the info center then it shuts off the air conditioner and kicks the front fan on max. When my weekend comes I'm going to head back to the dealer and ask what code is coming up exactly.

When you replaced yours, did you have to turn off that code as well?

You should not need to turn off the code until it is colder outside but in CA you may never need to. What T-Stat did you put in (Brand)?

    Re: Last Resort For Help

There are discussions about people having the same exact problem, replacing the thermostat and still having the same problem.

turns out, these OEM thermostats have a pretty bad failure rate, even out of box. when replaced again, one member fixed the issue

    Re: Last Resort For Help

I'm on a couple different forums myself. Thermostats on each forum are well documented, regardless of the vehicle, of being "bad" right out of the box. "Bad" can mean a lot of things - but typically they open (or don't open) at temps different than their rating. So based just on what I've read here already, you have a couple very simple options - put in a stock-rated TStat, put in another new 160° TStat, and/or get a tuner to turn off that code.

I ordered a Mr Gasket 6367 from summit racing, I got that part number from Jamies post on this forum. Maybe I'll order another or just get another GM 180° to replace this one.
It's been mid to high 100's here and driving with no ac is not the most comfortable thing to do!
