    Went to the track.....and broke

Good weather, beautiful day...let's take the car to the track!

I've got an 07 V with a W4M tune, magnaflow exhaust, conti extreme contacts all season and a spectre intake. The car has felt good since the intake install with no codes. Let's go see if it made me any faster. My previous best was a 13.2x. Traction was an issue, as always, but I managed a 12.95 at 108.70. That was babying the car off the line.

Well, after a good half a dozen quick passes it happened. I avoided the water, was spinning any sand or debris off the tires with a short burnout and CLUNK! It felt like the drive shaft hit the ground. I stopped, listened and heard nothing. I then remembered I was wearing a helmet, took it off and listened again. I heard metallic, intermittent rattling. The car could move in either drive or reverse, kinda. I opted for neutral and a push. There was diff fluid on the ground...a lot. Hopefully the trans isn't nuked also. I guess I'll find out.

    I did run a 12.95, though.

The glass rear end strikes again. Bummer.

    Trans is probably ok though.

Are you going to replace with stock or do something else?

Either the rear end shattered or your broke a drive axle. That car isn't made for drag racing.
It's got power, but the diff can't take the launch you need for good times.

Very scared! Thus, the reason I have a spare rear end. Someone did post pics of a snapped axle a while back.

Good luck nef, we're all going to face this sooner or later.

Won't know the extent of the damage until late tomorrow. You gotta pay to play, right? I am under warranty. I'm going to be honest with them and see what happens. I'm sure I'll be paying for it. Still, I did get a 12.xx.

I'll be going back with stock. I don't think we really have too many options. C3? What else is out there?

Re: Went to the track.....and broke

I bought the car just over a year ago and knew I would be doing a few power mods. Although nothing too extreme. I started trolling this forum as soon as I bought the car and that's where my education began. One of the first things I learned about was the "glass" rear end.

There was a guy that has several things listed in the classified section of this forum and one of the items was a rear end with 18k miles on it. When he had his V it was was whining at 18k miles and the dlr replaced it under warranty. Somehow he got to keep it. After he sold the V, he listed all the stuff he had left. He was only 45 minutes away. I gave him $250 for it.

BTW, He was the guy that posted pics of his snapped axle.

I'm sure my V would go deep into the twelves, with its mods, and some good air. I even have some Forgeline rims with DR's for it. Too scared now.

I'll just play with the Impy, went 11.99, last time out.

Do the CTS-V diffs mount the same as ours? There is a guy making brackets to mount an 8.8 Ford diff for the CTS-V.
