Engine Hot - AC Off - temperature sending unit?

    All,

Newbie here. Actually this is my first post. I recently acquired a 2006 STS-V. All was fine for the first couple of weeks. Now I've started getting a "Engine Hot - AC Off" display along with the coolant temp gauge doesn't function. It's an intermittent problem and when it works, the gauge reads in the normal range. I believe it's an electrical gremlin, but I'm having a little trouble locating the temperature sending unit. Any suggestions?

Also, obviously a newbie question, but is there any way to remove the stinking plastic cover without taking off the tower brace? I have it off now and I'm seriously considering never reinstalling it.

Thanks a bunch for any help you can offer!

    -Alan

We just had a thread about this exact problem here:

You have to remove the brace to remove the cover.

    Bob,

Thanks for the tip. I added to that thread. As far as the cover goes, has anyone cut off the rear "support" on the plastic cover so it will slide out to the front? Do most people just leave them off? Or do most people just remove the tower brace and the intercooler overflow tank every time they want to work on the engine?

    Thanks,
    Alan
