    Gutted Catalytic Converters or headers

So it has been a while since I have ventured over this way, I'm glad to see everyone is still active. Its unfortunate to see that some people are still dealing with the same problems as when I left. I applaud those people for their patients.

My question to everyone is whether or not anyone has gutted their catalytic converters i.e. went catless yet? If so what were the power gains and exhaust note changes. Has any produced a quality set of headers?

The reason I'm asking is I finally got a catalytic converter efficiency CEL (45k on the odometer) the other day which I cleared and has not came back. I wondered with the extra boost if I would even notice a partially clogged cat or even blow it out. The car loves this cooler fall weather especially with the large additional heat exchanger added. Now I just have to keep tires on the beast.

No gutted here, Some point down the road, I may look into a set of high flow units like Random Tech's that I have laying around for my GTO should I decide to put them in.

Part of the problem is, at least on the drivers side, it is part of the factory manifold. So doing so, I think would result in having to do some form of aftermarket header too.

One option if you physically don't want to replace the actual converter at this point in time, have someone with HP Tuners see if they can change the class type for the DTC you're getting, this way it won't command your MIL on, and won't flag for any emissions test.

Thanks for the response guys.. I guess I was hoping to see if anyone has done before and after dyno's to solidify potential gains.

Wait4me (please chime in).... I know you now have a STS-V at your disposal and have played with removing the cats and going high flow cats on the high boost 2009-2011 CTS-V's. Can you weigh in the positives and negatives with going this route. I have a local shop that will remove stock exhaust manifold and weld in high flow cats or gut original cats for $300. Will I pick up any HP with this considering I am running 16psi boost with upgraded magnaflow exhaust????

Secondly, I know that you are contemplating doing some performance mods for the STS-V. Can you enlighten everyone on what type of things you are considering. I have called your office the last three months only to get the same response which is call back in a month. Thanks for continuing to improve the cadillac performance line of cars.
