Does our car have to "learn" the transmission?

I got it back today from the dealership - they were fixing the shift to park and spontaneous hard shifts. On the way home it would shift really wierd from 2nd to 3rd but only in sport and manual mode. Almost like a 3 part shift like

    part 1 - start shifting
part 2 - act like in neutral (very briefly)
    part 3 - finish shift

It was a 20 mile or so drive and by time i got home it wasnt doing it. My wife had take it for a 15 mile round trip and drove half way in sport, other half drive and didnt feel anything....

I also have noticed in the past right after i load my W4M tuner it acts strange for a bit. Do our transmissions have to learn on a clean wipe?

Yes they always have to learn. They have commanded values, then they adjust to that value a little at a time.

Well this has been answered, but any modern day car has to re-learn your driving parameters from it's base set of pre-programmed tables.

Or you could pull a battery terminal every few months.

Re: Does our car have to "learn" the transmission?

Yes, or pull the PCM Bat and PCM IGN fuses (if the particular GM vehicle you're doing this to has them), with the ignition key on for 30 - 60 seconds. Either way will put the PCM in "Idle Re-learn" mode.

However, then you have to do the full GM OBDII drive cycle for it to get the maximum return on learning investment. Sometimes that's hard to do here.
