That was one of the specific issues mentioned in the GM letter to dealerships.

And on that note, if you did blow your motor they can sometimes tell if you have flashed to stock if they want to get forensic (which Ford does with all the Mustang guys that blow their motors). They can look to an abnormal number of battery disconnects or reflash points and some even have secret codes that are set off if the tune is changed. |

According to the GM letter bad Cats was one of the specific things they were to check for a tuned ECM if they were to be replaced under warranty. Due to the fact they said a bad tune could cause premature failure. Now whether a particular dealership does this will probably vary depending upon who one goes to. But as I understand it for a Cat to go bad due to "poisoning" one would have to be running rich. Since these cars appear to come from the factory running PIG rich, I would think a decent tune that would better balance the fuel-air mixture would not only gain some HP, but also extend the Cat's service life ? |

On the pig rich thing though, I didn't think these things came rich at all relative to other boosted cars. Anyone know A/F? 11:1 or above for me thanks. |

Yeah my bad use of terms there, brain thinking one way and wording backwards. |

I want to get the tune but i dont want any issues with it causing parts to go bad as i only have 8 months of warranty left. |

I wanted to put some miles on the stock tune first. I'll bring it in Monday. I would say its either the tune or the fact I am lowered and my wife doesn't slow down over speed bumps and reports occasionally she bottoms out under the car,,, SO it may be shashed or cracked.... We'll see.. IF its damaged by speed bumps then the replacement will surely be on my dime with the car lowered. IF not then the tune is suspect unless a lot of STS-V cats go bad at 60k |
