Amazing...I just read this thread day before yesterday and I get in My 2006 STS V with all of 18,600 Miles and the GM battery was doa after 4 years ...So after a jump I was off to Advance Auto Parts and $202.00 later I have the Optima 78 Seried Installed! A perfect fit as discussed!
They are great batteries...I have one in My whole house standby generator(Miami Beach) and one in My 1980 TR8 Convertible!
Thanks Guys for the dicusssion of this battery!!

How do you get into the car if the battery is dead?

08 and 09's have a key in remote fob, which unlocks the driver's door, I assume earlier ones are similiar.

I have a key for my car and it is an 2007. You put the key in the hole and turn and has long as it is turned it opens the door.

06's are the same. It happened to me the first time the battery died.

    Just used the door key.

Keep in mind that if the battery is completely dead you may have to open the BACK door to get in as the popper for the front door may not work.

Don't you have a key to open the driver door? I do.

Re: Replacing the Car Battery, with other than OEM

UPDATE. I have a 2004 CTS base 3.6 version. Stopped at Costco and measured their Group 78. Bought it out the door with tax for $90. Much higher CCA, more power and better overall battery. Took it home and it literally slipped into position easier than the original, with no modification to the tray or hold down bracket needed. I did have to slit the insulating blanket for a proper wrap at the front just because I didn't want to dink with it. Left a small 1/3 inch slit at the rear that is up against the firewall and can't be seen. No more group 101 for me.

When I plan on upgrading the sound system down the road I'll probably throw in the XS Power S3400 Battery. It's rated at 1000 CCA.
