Traction control issue

Remove this ad
I'm wondering if anybody else has this problem (or can confidently report they do NOT have the problem).

The traction/stability control on my 2006 is hair trigger on tight turns at low speeds. Even though there is no slippage or any indication of impending slippage that I can feel, if I'm going around a 90 degree corner at low speeds, say 15mph, the tc will suddenly kick in and cut engine power. This also can occur in the middle of a u-turn.

I have a 2000 Buick with stabilitrac and it doesn't remotely exhibit this deficiency. In fact, it actually enjoys me playing "Micheal Schumacher" a little bit and has a decently high intervention threshold.

My guess is that TC intervention is calculated in part based on the difference in wheel rotation speeds, the inside rear wheel is barely moving on these tight turns, and I'm exceeding the threshold for the difference in rotation between wheels.

If so, that's a software issue and it should be present in other vehicles. If not, then maybe I have a hardware problem. It would help to know if others have had the same experience.

Re: Traction control issue

I have the same issue on my 2007 V... There is uphill 90 degree turn I take everyday on my way home from work that throws the TC... I make the turn and have to wait a second before I can accel up the hill...

Re: Traction control issue

Yep! I had complained about this as well. Once I removed the "wheel hop" traction controll, feature in the ECM it went away.

Try holding down your TC button for 10 seconds until you see "stability off" then try the same U turn or corner and see if it goes away.

It's not TC it's Stabilitrac doing it. It thinks the car is out of shape and kills the motor for a bit.
