Will 18" front rims fit on rear?

Remove this ad
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has tried putting the front 18" rims on the rear? I am thinking of purchasing an '06 STS-V but I see there is issues with winter tire selection. I was wondering if I were to buy 2 additional 18" fronts, will they clear the rear brakes? If so, then I could just buy winter tires that will match the aspect ratio of the 19" rims.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks

You might want to run 19's on front instead.

Yep, the 18s fit fine on the rear. I tested it out before I bought a used 18 for a spare.

Re: Will 18" front rims fit on rear?

Ah, perfect, thanks! If I have to buy winter tires, there is no tire company that makes winter tires the same OEM size for 18" fronts and 19" rears. Bridgestone makes the size needed for the 18" fronts and Pirelli makes the size needed for the 19" rears. I don't want to mix 2 different tread patterns. However, if I can get the 18s on the rear, I just have to buy a thicker sidewall tire to match the same aspect ratio of the 19s.

Advan S4 by Yokohama fits front and rear - no issues in the snow here in Chicago last winter with them. Might be a little hard to find, but they are a matched set.

Have you done this yet? If so, any problems or issues with using the 18" fronts on the rear? What tire size did you use to match the aspect ratio? And, what brand of winter tires did you wind up with and how do you like them?

Thanks for the help - we're getting more than our share of winter this year...
