I know this may sound a little crazy, but I was wondering if anyone knew if the 18" SRX wheels would fit on the STS-V. I'm thinking ahead for winter and figured they'd be a good candidate for a set of winter wheels to get some nice (narrower!) snow tires on. They're the right bolt pattern, the question is more whether or not they'll clear the brakes. |

I'm thinking of picking up another front 18" for a spare and having weldcraft narrow it down to 6" and putting a 225/50 on it so it should fit in the trunk. |

Granted I had summer GSD3s on, but I got stuck in a snowstorm with barely an inch on the ground and the V couldn't even make it up the smallest of hills.
If it's snowing, leave it in the garage. |

A second set of snow tires is a MUST for winter driving. Purchase a set of 4 18" rims (4 fronts) and mount Blizzak or Advan S4 tires on them to get around in the snow. The Pirelli run flats flat out suck in the snow - ZERO traction as Kadonny said. A 3 degree hill will bog you down. You can turn off traction control, switch to manual shifting and try starting in 2nd or 3rd gear, but that gets old real fast. And when the car automatically downshifts for you, you have to completely stop to reset to a higher gear.
Kadonny,
Speaking of the GS D3s, you mentioned earlier that they were getting loud. Since I drive my V daily, I hadn't noticed any real difference. Until my wife rode in the car with me yesterday and commented that the car sounded louder than normal. Definitely wheel/tire noise. What tire pressure do you run yours at - lower or higher than recommended. I have mine set at 30 lbs. cold, but it can get up to 33 lbs. on a hot day after driving a while. Not sure if changing the air pressure will make any difference, but I do definitely notice a noisier ride now that the tires have a few thousand miles on them (compared to when new).

My GSD3s seem to be getting loud too. What's the deal?? I have them set at about 30 lbs. and noticed them up at 33 lbs. when warmed up today. |

Even in my '89 Chevy Beretta I was easily spinning the tires at 30 MPH in 5th gear. Quote:

Bob | So you don't think the F1 all-seasons will cut it? |

I have mine set to 34 cold and they are still loud as hell. I havn't tried pumping them up yet to see if that helped, but max pressure is like 50 so I think they could easily take 38 cold.
I drove home from the shore yesterday and they are so loud, louder than they should be. I have about 10k miles on them and I'm a bit disappointed in them regarding both noise and traction. It's a shame too, because Florian raves about them and I just have not had the same experience that he has had. |

If you want to run all-seasons, then those are fine. I wanted to experience the full performance of the car, and the Pirelli's and most all season tires just don't give the grip. Plus, the summer tires are mounted on the fancy chromed rims, which gives it a great look. In the winters here in Chicago, chrome and road salt don't mix. Not to mention the potholes, snow, ice, and morons who think snow is a license to go FASTER. So I have the original OEM rims mated to the Advan S4 tires. Decent grip in light to moderate snow. Nothing will help on the ice or the deep stuff. Like Kadonny says, best to just leave the beast at home on those days.

Since I only use them half the year, I am "stuck" with them for at least another year, unless they get really loud. As for that Florian guy raving about them, he probably has the radio up too loud and can't hear them! (Just kidding Florian)

I bought them because you all were going on and on about how great they were. Now what? I guess I just need to get an exhaust so I don't hear the tires..... Still waiting for Corsa.....maybe one day..... |
