Engine rattle when starting normal?

Hey guys!
I recently bought a certified pre-owned 2006 STS-V and when I start it each morning or after is has set for a few hours, the engine has a rattling/clattering sound when I start it. It lasts for about 1 second when starting and reminds me of the sound of diesel car cranking up. I left it overnight at the Cadillac dealer I purchased it from and they said it was normal and it was just the oil going up into the supercharger. It just doesn't sound normal to me so I was wondering if any of you have experienced the same noise. If not, should I take it to another dealer and have it checked out?
Thanks!

Jenny

Re: Engine rattle when starting normal?

Make sure it has the OEM oil filter on it...no generic is allowed and may cause that noise due to drain back.

Re: Engine rattle when starting normal?

Agreed. That noise is not normal. That dealer is feeding you a line of BS.

By the way, welcome to the STS-V club!

Loose heat shield, 02 sensor, etc? Like others have said should not be there, find a different dealership if they aren't competent enough to put it on a lift and find out where the rattle is coming from.

Re: Engine rattle when starting normal?

I am going to take it to a different dealership. I can't see what oil filter it currently has on, but I would assume that since it was certified by the dealership they would've changed the oil there and put on the correct oil filter. But who knows. The oil filter should be an acdelco PF26 is that right? This noise is not normal and it doesn't take a a rocket scientist to figure that one out. I will take it to the other dealership in town and see what they say about it.
Thanks for your help!

Jen

Re: Engine rattle when starting normal?

mine started making the same noise when it only had 200 miles on it, it was the resonator/muffler at the x pipe in the exhaust.
i paid the difference between the stock exhaust(under warranty), and the performance exhaust and now have more power and a cool exhaust.(be careful, it's LOUD)

Re: Engine rattle when starting normal?

I took the car to another local dealer. They called and said after consulting with their "technical advisors" they believe the clatter is being caused by a bad lifter. So they are going to replace the lifters on it. They had to order the parts and will call me when they come in. Hopefully this will fix it.
