It is most likely due to the GM beancounters. They are probably trying to save money on each unit they produce, even though the 2008 STS-V and XLR-V production numbers seem to be much lower than the 2007 STS-V and XLR-V production numbers.
GM does a lot of things that make most people wonder.
If GM would have given the public what they wanted in the terms of product 10 years ago, they would be far ahead of the competition. They are just starting to wake up and realizing that good product design truly pays off. Just look at the CTS, Enclave and Malibu inventory. They can't keep them in stock! If GM focused on interior and exterior styling on EVERY vehicle they produced, they would be way ahead of Toyota and any other automaker in the world. They are playing catch-up right now instead of being the standard of the world they once were and causing every other automaker to catch-up to their pace.
