If you had to do it over again...What would you want done differently?

As we have concluded another round of testing & tuning, squeezing more HP out of this 4.4 Northstar, we were wondering...

If Cadillac was to rebuild the STSV, what would you want to see done differently?
    More power
    7 Speed Tranny
    Paddle Shifter
    Quicker Shifts
    Interior
    Larger Overall Dimensions
    Additional Color Options
    Cooled seats
    etc...

Curious to see how many of these items would be addressed with the new CTSV 550+HP monster.

    Thank you,

More power - Break the 525HP barrier. (not that difficult as y'all have shown)

7 Speed Tranny- Yes, something to improve Hwy mileage or increase the size of #6.

Paddle Shifter - nice, but not a win or lose for this car.

    Quicker Shifts
    Interior
    Larger Overall Dimensions
    Additional Color Options- Infrared
    Cooled seats
    etc...

Same Size Wheels front and back, dump the Run Flat tires.

    Backup Camera

Analog Speedometer to 180, stock limiter to 175.

Fold down rear seat vs pass through.

DIC info displayed on LCD Screen.

TPS tire reading like in the 04-07 CTS-V

I think many of the suggestiions result in a higher price, which is something nobody wants to see. Here are some suggestions that would cost nothing:

    1. Bottom seat cushions filled with something more supportive than the cream cheese in them now; this is a hi performance car, not a 1973 Fleetwood.

    2. Sport mode recalibrates the throttle and remaps the cpu, so that normal mode can have softer tip-in and a bit better mpg, while sport mode can be rip-roaring fast without any compromises toward normal street driving (BMW has been doing this for 20 years, why can't Caddy?)

    3. Reverse the manual gate so its pull to upshift, push to downshift like every single sequential shift race car ever made (arrrgghhhh).

    4. Enough letters in the personalized start up message to say "Good morning Doctor Chandra, I'm ready for my first lesson."

This is a pretty short list and shows that Caddy did a pretty darned good job. To be truthful, the seat cushions are the only thing that really has me peeved, as I can't concieve of any rational excuse for their condition.

As much power as they could safely squeeze out of the 4.4L!!! From what I have heard, the 4.4L Northstar motor is built to handle at least 700 HP, so why did Cadillac skimp on the HP and TQ numbers, especially when Mercedes and BMW have cars with over 500 HP?? The STS-V's MSRP isn't exactly cheap either!

the steering/handling is not up to par with similar vehicles. It is way overboosted at low speeds...very "un-meaty" and provides little to no feedback.

Re: If you had to do it over again...What would you want done differently?

    Hello,
Well this is very true. They certainly did leave some stuff on the table with this vehicle. I donít know if it was just timing on Cadillac's part or someone didnít want to play all their cards right now. But if you look at the grand scheme of things it would have made a much better presentation to release the vehicle with at least 500HP. From our development we have seen some concerns regarding the intercooling system, but that shouldnít have stopped them from increasing the HP a little bit.

The 700HP is for the long block. The blower will not support that figure by itself. Great little motor, but the blower is one of its largest restrictions.

Price - Kind of makes you wonder what the next generation STSV would have cost.... $85K-90K???

    Thanks,

Massaging seats like on my DTS, or my previous 745 LI,cooled seats and a more common air filter for k/n to work with, because the one on there now is verrrryy restrictive and ridicously huge. more chrome for the wheels if you dont have a silver one, because the wheels now only look good on the silver.

Re: If you had to do it over again...What would you want done differently?

Ideal STS-V (based on realistic evolution of current model):

    Red Crystal Tint Coat

19's front and back (Pontiac G8 has 'em)

Paddle shifters with 7 speed transmission with lower 1st & 2nd and taller 6th & 7th (why do you think MB & BMW kick ass off the line and gets better gas mileage). The highest top speed will then probably be in 5th, but you can laze in 6th & 7th.

    Not going to happen:
    LS3 with S/C
Rear bucket seats and console with DVD, HVAC and radio controls a la Chinese SLS (and the legroom). What's the point in back doors if someone doesn't use the back seat (not me!)? But then you would have a roader.

But, the writing is on the wall. With the 2009 CTS-V (and, hopefully, CTS-V Coupe and dare we hope for -- convertible with retract HT), all bets are off. When the new CTS-V hits the showrooms with another 75 HP over the S/C N*, stay away from the STS-V exit door and the CTS-V entrance door. You could be injured or killed. (Please press the "I Agree" button.)

The Sigma STS and all variants will soon be history. Six years is all anyone gets.

Look for the RWD/AWD STS/DTS combo (too many models now) in 2010 as a 2011 model with (hopefully) an up-market/performance version for us that want a bigger fast car, a DI V-6 for the brain-dead and rent-a-car crowd, and a loaded Fleecewood Brogan with a boulevard ride for the codgers . But it will have to be a bigger car. The current STS is TOO small (interior, back seat legroom, trunk, glovebox, misc storage cubbies, you name it). But, please... no Rube Goldberg atriculating cupholders.
