I just wanted to let everyone know that I got the Cadillac safety recall notice in the mail today, but I don't have the problem yet. My rear end hasn't leaked a drop and I have had the car for a year now.
I don't want to take it in if it doesn't have the problem. Like they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You never know. They may go in to replace the seal and break something else.
The "kit" has a new pinion nut, a new design yoke, and a new design seal.
Basically you replace everything you take out of the diff then top off the fluid.
I have posted some pictures on the redesign of the seal and pinion. I forget where they are, I think in the SRX area? They vary slightly in size and shape depending on the application but the redesign is the same for all the seals.
If I didn't mention it in this thread, the new parts went onto GM's shelves on December 17th, 2007.
Anything done before that will need the recall done, even though a "new" seal was put in, it is the old design.
If the recall is open on the vehicle, have it done.
I just want to thank you for all of the information posted in this thread. I had the recall done this morning and when reviewing the RO, there was no mention of the "additive". I asked my service writer if they forgot something...he checked with the service manager, who promptly checked with the tech. They checked the recall again and then asked for the key fob again so that they could finish the job and then put in the additive.
The service writer actually thanked me for checking and, of course, my patience with them. It seems that some cars require the additive and others don't...why they were confused about this car is beyond me, but he did say they have been doing a lot of seals lately (on different models). Just goes to show ya, that the more we are informed, the better.
The additive is required on G80 option equipped vehicles.
That is a limited slip rear diff.
It is an option on all but CTS-V, which comes standard with it, even though it is not listed as an option.
It is part of a "package" that has another code.
Strange but true.
Glad you had a good experience.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
