Well after finding the GM Accessories black and clear 3rd brake light for the STS I had to have it . .
Pretty Happy - sorry crappy pics due to IL crappy weather . . .
Install helpfull hints . . .
Taking the carpet liner off the truck is a total PITA, the factory pine cones are very stiff . . .
Then the entire spoiler has to be removed. 4 - 14 mm speed nuts, and 4-10 mm bolts. A deep well socket works best. Be very careful not to drop 2 of the 10mm down the structure of the trunk lid. 2 of the10 mm bolts are hidded under snap caps.
One corner of the spoiler was held down with 3m trim tape . . . ?
Once the spoiler is off, there are 2 round pressure clips holding the CHMSL to the spoiler, hiding behind a foam disk.
I peeled off the foam disks and used a small screw driver to carefully pry the snap discs off.
Then reverse install, the new light has a slightly sharper bend than the original, so a little finese is needed to get it all in place. Then slip the snap disks back on as well as the foam disks, and you're ready to reinstall onto the car.
Me too.....and now it sounds like a bit more of a PITA than I had thought too....and I think it looks much better on black (the slower color)
Actually that's kinda the reason I keep talking myself out of it. The black at night with the red tails looks good (IMO). When I see another black STS at night put their brakes on I talk myself out of spending the money, we'll see though.
The fastest STS-V color has to be silver, look at Ben Stein
