How about a TSB thread for 06 and 07 so when we go in for a oil change or service we can print them out to have in hand?

Aren't they public information? If they don't like it then we can post the number and our description.

IIRC, they made cadillacfaq take them down because they said that GM's copyrighted materials were being used without their authorization or permission. I guess, as a rule, they prefer owners to be outside the loop of information. What I find most interesting is that many members have had to take TSBs to their dealerships because the dealership isn't finding them on their own. That's not very encouraging to think that we might have more tknowledge than the dealer that is servicing our car. But, I think we may still be able to post TSB numbers and a description without the entire TSB and be OK. Ewill?

That's what we call a ...umm.... a big fat hairy lie! That's exactly what I'm talking about...why do I know more than the dealer about this? What dealer do you go to? I had two TSB's done myself-the bluetooth/navigation and the front seak creak.

CRAP! I asked about the bluetooth screwing up specifically and they said they didn't see anything and the radio still stays on when I answer a call. I will have 06 TSB's covered in a week so if someone can focus on 07 or e-mail me your 07 vin I will get that as well.

Can we have a secret thread that "only paid members" can see? If I can get these I don't want to get anyone in trouble for getting them for me.

Re: 2007 STS-V Technical Service Bulletin Info?

Well, here is one for you....

Subject: Voice Recognition System Performs Poorly, Memory Seat Function Operation Complicated, Navigation Radio Screen Locks Up, Map DVD Message Displayed, Telephone Number Not Dialed via Bluetooth #05-08-126-001B - (03/28/2007)

    Models: 2005-2007 Cadillac STS

    Built Prior to December, 2006

    with Navigation Radio (RPO YQ4)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to clarify which vehicles require the software updates by providing the software version information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-08-126-001A (Section 08 -- Body & Accessories).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Condition
Some customers may comment of any or all of the following conditions:

    • Poor performance of the voice recognition system.

    • The memory seat function operation is too complicated to set.

    • The navigation radio touch screen locks up.

    • The navigation radio displays "Disc Inserted is Not a Map DVD" even though a map DVD is installed.

    • A telephone number cannot be dialed via "Bluetooth". This occurs after the customer has added and/or deleted more than 50 inputs.

    • When using "Bluetooth", the outbound caller is very faint and cannot be heard well.

    Cause
These conditions may be caused by the navigation system software.

    Correction
Navigation Radio Software Versions Requiring An Update Radio Part Number
    Current Navigation System Software Version
    Current Audio System Software Version

    10377613
    0C80
    0E60

    0F00
    0106

    15793847
    0F90
    010B

Important: After the software updates are complete, the customer may notice that some functions have been moved to different screen locations. Some voice recognition commands that were used infrequently have been deleted. If a voice command is not recognized, the navigation radio will now prompt the user to speak the command up to three times.

Technicians are to perform a software update on the audio and navigation systems using the following procedure:

Record the customer's radio station presets.
Connect a Tech 2® to the vehicle and cycle the ignition to ON with the engine off. This mode can be reached by depressing the lower part of the ignition switch for about 5 or 6 seconds. The upper button, with a circle on it, will illuminate. Determine the audio and navigation system software version numbers that are currently in the vehicle. If the vehicle has the software versions listed in the table above the software update is required. If the vehicle has any other software version the update is not required.
Wait until the audio or map screen is displayed after the Cadillac logo screen.
Important: If the navigation system software version is not listed in the table above, the software update will not start and the audio and navigation software update is not necessary. If the software update is not required DO NOT insert disc 2 into the radio.

Eject the map DVD, if loaded. Load the navigation system software update CD, disc 1, into the map DVD loading slot.
The statement "Preparing to load system software" will appear on the screen along with a progress bar. When the green progress bar reaches the end, the navigation software update using disc 1 is complete and the system will automatically restart.
Eject software update disc 1 from the map DVD slot.
Load the audio system software update, disc 2, into the map DVD slot.
A progress bar will be displayed on the lower left side of the screen. Japanese text will appear above the progress bar. When the yellow progress bar reaches the end, the audio system software update using disc 2 is complete and the system automatically restarts.
Eject the audio system update CD, disc 2, from the map DVD slot.
Use the Tech 2® to complete the following steps to initialize the audio and navigation software:
    10.1. Select: Diagnostics

    10.2. Select: Model year

    10.3. Select: Vehicle type

    10.4. Select: Product make

    10.5. Select: Product line

    10.6. Select: Product series

    10.7. Select: F7 Body & Accessory

    10.8. Select: Entertainment

    10.9. Select: F5 Module Set-up

    10.10. Select: F2 Navigation Radio

10.11. Select: F0 Audio Update Initialize (takes approximately 30 seconds)

10.12. Select: "Next". Note: A loss of communication will be experienced, power the Tech 2® off and then back on and follow steps 10.1 through 10.9, then proceed to step 10.13 to continue initializing the Navigation system.

10.13. Select: F1 Navigation Update Initialize (takes approximately 30 seconds)

10.14. Select: "On". The "Commanded State" will switch from "none" to "on" and the screen will flash and come up to the radio display.

10.15. Exit back to the "Body/Accessory" screen then select F7: Body/Accessory

    10.16. Select: Entertainment

    10.17. Select: F4 Module information

10.18. Select: F1 Navigation radio. Verify that the software versions are:

    - Navigation system software version = 0FC1

    - Audio system software version = 010C

    Cycle the ignition to OFF.
Open and close the driver's door and wait for 60 seconds.
    Cycle the ignition to ON.
Load the customer's map DVD into the lower slot located below the navigation system screen.
After inserting the map DVD, touch the "I agree" screen button. If the "I agree" screen does not come up, select the "globe"/map key to access the navigation screen.
Reset the radio presets to the customer's preferences.
Verify that the navigation system reflects the correct location of the vehicle. If necessary, recalibrate the navigation system. Refer to the STS Owner Navigation Manual supplement (pages 2-59 and 2-60) for more information.
Cycle the ignition to OFF. The software update is now complete.
    Voice Recognition Commands
Please provide an updated list of the voice recognition commands that are currently available to your customers. Customers with a 2005 model year vehicle may not have had some of these commands available to them with their old navigation system software. Refer to the latest list that is a part of the Owner Manual Supplement on the Navigation System that is available in SI. Information about voice recognition is available in SI. Refer to Voice Recognition.

    Parts Information
Obtain a software upgrade disc set by contacting the GM Navigation Disc Center at 1-877-628-3472 per Corporate Bulletin Number 06-08-44-012A (DVD Navigation Update Program, AVN Software Update Discs and Ordering Information). The center will require your BAC code, dealer code and shipping address. Advanced Vehicle Navigation (AVN) software discs are for the dealer to update the navigation radio software only. They DO NOT update or replace the navigation map disc that is supplied with the vehicle. Please order these parts only as needed. There is a limited supply of these discs available. Do not order these discs for stock. The AVN software update discs can be used to reprogram more than one vehicle. The first update disc for each part number is free. Subsequent copies of the same part number for the same dealer will cost $50.

Well, it may not be a lie per se. The seat and Bluetooth TSB are really STS TSBs, not necessarily STS-V TSBs. Do they cover STS-Vs? Yes, but only becuase they are STSs. Are there any specific STS-V only TSBs? Good question.

Well, technically, I suppose you are correct. But, a dealer shouldn't mince words like that. If I asked the dealer about TSBs, I would hope that they would check for any TSB applicable to my car. After all, you're not asking because you're writing an essay, you're asking because you want to know about your car.

Re: 2007 STS-V Technical Service Bulletin Info?

Ahhh TSBs.... what can I say.

There are literally hundreds of TSBs out for almost every product on the road these days.
You have to have kind of an idea of what they are for and why they are around or you can let them lead you astray easily. They are diagnostic aids and sometimes take you to a shortcut. A lot of guys use them as excuses not to properly diagnose a car, which does no good for anyone.
Some people are convinced that a TSB will fix something when I know it won't, even though it sounds like it will.

To answer a few points that have come up...

I think GM came down on the forum because the posted documents were straight from GM's copyrighted service information. I am fairly sure the freedom of information act mandates that this stuff is public knowledge but it has to be obtained properly.
Some of the stuff I saw had the GM legal copyright information attached right to it, I think that was the no-no.
I am no copyright lawyer, so I don't know the details.
I don't have problems offering information about bulletins, or even posting what they are about.
I hate to give you guys a list, because frankly if you are an auto-condriac you might start believing that some of this stuff is broken when it isn't. I usually watch the stuff when it comes out and know about almost all of it related to Cadillac anyway.

Looking for TSBs is actually part of what GM wants me to do everytime I pull a car into my stall... and I usually do. A lot of guys are lazy and don't, some won't do it at all.

Yes some TSBs are specific to the STS-V but mostly related to the engine and transmission.

I try to watch the forums and pass this info along as I can but I stay pretty busy usually and I might miss stuff.
I hate to be so late on this topic, business is good, one of my helpers quit and the other is in school.

If you guys have specific issues, feel free to post them, slide at least the word "ewill" in your post and I'll find it.

Oh and finally there is something called a PI.
This is usually GM confidential information or stuff that hasn't made it through GM legal yet.
Those I usually don't copy, but I might tell you to have your dealer look at a specific PI number.
Preliminary information is what it means.
We used to only be able to get access to those by calling GM TAC and they would fax it to us or read it over the phone.
They made it so we have access to them but we are not supposed to be handing that info out unless it specifically relates to the vehicle we are working on.
Usually PIs turn into TSB's eventually and sometimes end up as recalls. Some things never make it past PI stages. Sometimes it depends on how many vehicles are affected.
If I can't find what I need I usually have some phone contacts at GM that can get me the info I am looking for.
