After watching this board and having my own issue with the "check engine " and my D3 box, with the same same code I might add...here is what I did the 2 times my light came on.
First time, I called Onstar, and they said it was a fuel trim issue. I went home and disconnected the box, but noticed that it was wet.I removed it, drove the car to work the next day(Cadillac dealership), called D3 and they came and got my box and said they would check it out and send me a replacement if needed. Approx 3 days later, they called me and said 'no problem was found with the programming or function.' I drove down to D3 and picked up my box, James installed it on the shock tower in stead of the inner fender, so as to avoid water. This worked well for quite some time.
2nd time - About 2 months later, I got into the car after my wife came back from Bakersfield complaining, "I wish that you never started fooling with the car, because now it's shifting hard and has less power, uses a lot of gas. I had one heck of a time stayin' in front of this Mercedes on the way back and that little light is on again!" So, I looked, and sure enough, the SES light was on as well as the TC light. So, I called Onstar and the confirmed a "fuel trim" issue again and something with my traction control. Since this was a weekend, I took a look myself and found the wire for the D3 box coming out of the MAF sensor had been rubbing on the underside of the engine cover, some were rubbed through and shorted together! So, I removed the cover, separated the wires, left the box disconnected and drove to work on Monday. I called D3 again and told them what happened. The told me to clear the code, tape up the wires so they won't contact anymore, leave the cover off and try it. I did and it's been fine ever since, about 6 months ago. I cut a hole in my engine compartment cover just over that connector so there is no contact now.
I feel like "I" was the guinea pig!
Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
