    Re: Clear Side Marker ??

Now that I would like to see. It seems that the CTS guys went in search of them for a while until wildwhl manufactured them. But there was a whole heating and glueing process that I would prefer not to deal with.... But, if all else fails, check with wildwhl.

It would look even better on a silver car. My S2000 was silver and i had clear side markers put on and it made a world of difference. It looked like it should have looked like from the factory. Who is wildwhl and how do i contact him? If I can find the clear lenses I don't mind heating them apart and re-sealing them.

I believe he actually manufactured them. He has a CTS-V and he's on the forum. You can probably PM him and see if he's interested in a new project.

    Re: Clear Side Marker ??

    Dan -

Ignore my PM. I just checked in here and see that we're talking about a totally different shape. Making the lenses is not a problem at all. I'll need to get a sidemarker, or some very specific dimensions, to start with. Not the threadjack (?) but to tell you what the CTS guys and I came up with. The lens is cut from acrylic with an engraved crosshatch using a laser cutter. There are two pieces - a base ring and lens. We simply glue those two together.

Now the fun part. You have to remove your sidemarkers, and smash/cut/? the old lens away. Then you clue the new lens to your existing factory housing. Most guys paint the housing to match the car (i.e. black on a black car) before gluing clear covers on. I also use a tinted material for the black cars, which looks great.

Longevity - to be honest - nobody knows. I hope for quite some time - as I've sold very many sets. On my V they've been on for about a year without issue. The V is sold now, but still sits in my shop waiting for the new buyer to retrieve it. In otherwords, YMMV.

If any of you are interested in figuring this out - I'd be happy to work with you. The sidemarker looks to be a rectangle. Question is whether it is actually parallel sides, trapezoid, curved, etc...

I had the WW side markers on my CTS-V....were fantastic, but took some work. If youre not mechanically inclined, its not for you. I will vouch for WWs workmanship...absolutely top notch!

    Re: Clear Side Marker ??

PM'd you so Ignore it. I am more than happy to do this. My S2000 headlights were sealed and had to be baked in the oven to get the glue to seperate. You then could seperate the housing, remove the yellow lense, re-bake and re-seal the housing.. If I buy a donor set for you to measure will i be able to get them back to experiment to find an easier way to seperate and re-attach the new lense?

    Re: Clear Side Marker ??

A donor set would be great, and yes, I will return them. I suspect the issues will be similar to the lenses on the CTS-V. The product I can make is flat - so if there is any molded in curvature, well, I can't recreate it easily (and if I try things that aren't easy anymore, my wife and kids beat me for ignoring them).

Alternatively, if you felt you could live without one of your sidemarkers for a while, FedEx it to me and I'll make the template and send it back. No need to disassemble.

Better yet - pull it out and post some pics first...before we get in too deep.

I'll take one off and take some measurements and detailed pics. I took a closer look and they apprear to be flat. They look much bigger in the picture. They only measure 1.5" high by 6 5/8" long at the top and 6 1/8 at the bottom. The trailing edge slants.

I am convinced you could go to a crafts store or a lamp store and locate the clear or frosted plastic and cut it to size. Many many moons ago, I purchased something like that. Just use a glass cutter or a soldering iron to cut the stuff.
