Re: Farting or groaning noise from climate control system

In the upper right hand corner there is a Search box, put in "Farting Noise"
and click on appropiate links. I'm sorry I cannot find my posts on this either.
Good Luck, I have done this twice, one on each car.
It worked GREAT, and Kept on working...
The Jist of this is: what DarkMingBlueSTS, says above,
Remove the glove box, and lube the actuator arms.
Do IT once , and it's done.
    Have fun.

They have also redesigned the levers.

Lube is an easy short term fix. Replacing parts might be a bit harder but not expensive to have done.

I lubed mine with silicon grease a couple of years ago and it's been quiet ever since.

Good to hear it didn't need a repeat treatment.

Where are the actuators? I took my glove compartment out yesterday and couldn't see where I'm supposed to lube. The noise is coming from a duct sorta off to the left a little.

Turn on the ac, go through different modes, look back there for moving parts, and lube those moving parts

Re: Farting or groaning noise from climate control system

Old thread, I know. But, the 2005 STS 1SG I just bought a couple months ago has apparently been "fartin" around for over 10 years as the previous owner never got this fixed.
Thanks to these threads and AllData, I spent $15 on the repair kit (a new actuator arm, rotation pin, and grease) and did the repair myself.
Super quiet recirculation/fresh air cycling now!
Just for future forum members... this repair is best done according to the TSB, replacing the actuator arm and rotational pin. Simply greasing it up is a temporary fix.
And it's super easy if you just go ahead and unbolt then lower the air intake box. It was only held in by three 10mm bolts and that makes the actuator completely accessible.

Re: Farting or groaning noise from climate control system

Bringing this back because it has some great info. This thread mostly documents the recirculation door actuator noise, which is a fart/groan. My car does this. I will add this to the list.

But there is another noise and I am having a harder time finding info on this. I have narrowed it down to the air blend door. There is a clicking somewhere in the dash. Outside temp around 73 and A/C on 70, so similar temps inside and out. It seems if I turn the temp up a lot, or down a lot, the noise goes away. So my feeling is, the air blend door actuator or something has a weird spot that causes it to click for whatever reason.

Anyone heard of this and what can I do about it that doesn't involve taking the entire dash apart? I don't believe anything is functionally wrong with my climate control. I can try the 90-60-90-60-etc. approach and see if that does anything.

Had the same issue for years and have yet to solve it. Wish I had more to give you. I plan to replace my entire dash assembly in the next few weeks. Hopefully someone will solve this riddle before then. Otherwise I will post my results here when the time comes

Re: Farting or groaning noise from climate control system

It's pretty funny that every small thing that is wrong with my car is actually common to many others. At least GM was consistent on that...

I will try the 90-60-90-60-etc. thing and let you know if that does anything. Obviously you can try the same if you want.

I haven't had my car for more than a month but I have not identified that this is causing any kind of functional issue. But it is quite annoying. The other thing is, I can stop it by changing the temp on the climate control. I would love to know what you find when you take your dash apart - I am not willing to do that.

Re: Farting or groaning noise from climate control system

climate control system include 6 actuators: driver temp and rear temp at driver side, pass temp, mode valve and circulation at pass side.
if sound comes from upper driver part of the dash and reacts on temp than you need to replace driver temp actuator motor.
