I figured it out this morning what is happening to make you think this works. If you hit the advance station button on the right side of the steering wheel and the next station happens to be one of your presets, then the preset station will light up on the NAV screen. That does not mean it went to that preset--it just happened to be the next station in the band sequence. Double click the button again and it will go the next station on the system and it will not be the next preset . Hope this helps.

I have to say, this is a major disappointment -- sort-of what happened to the latest iteration of the MB E-Class (adding features without considering usability -- E-Class also cannot change presets from the steering wheel). I had been hoping for a heated steering wheel in the next iteration of the Cadillac SRX, but hope that they don't do that and get rid of the preset change button.

If any engineers are listening, you either need to make the seek +/- buttons programmable so that they can seek or do presets in accordance with the driver's wishes, or change one of these buttons so that it's a preset changer.

Frankly, I've felt on both the XLR and the STS that the amount of button real estate reserved for the adaptive cruise control is really over the top. Most daily driving doesn't involve cruise control. The plus/minus buttons should be relegated to "side" steering wheel buttons, similar to the buttons on the new Escalade/DTS/Buick Lucerne.

Sorry I steered you wrong guys. The two stations I listen to just happen to be next to each other so I thought it was jumping up a preset.

I wish Cadillac would copy Jeep with their radio control buttons on the back of the steering wheel.

Sorry to dig up a dead thread, but I must be incredibly stupid not to say at least extremely slow. Look under the voice command button on the steering wheel, it should be a 1-6 icon. THIS is the preset change button, at least in my 06'.

Hopefully it is the same for the 2005 people

For those of us who have the top packages, that button is replaced by the heated steering wheel control.

Interesting. So you say I have a feature on my V6 that the top dogs don't. Someone over at GM is sleeping at the wheel.

living in the cold weather, I'd rather forgo the presets on the wheel and have warm hands. It is unfortunate that a feature was lost to give a feature but the reach is not terrible.

I've noticed this in several other vehicles, GM is replacing the preset button with a seek button. Its maddening. Who just goes up the dial from one station to the next?? No one. We all have our PRESET stations to which we listen, not the entire dial.

    Go figure.

My assumption would be that since the VR system is "supposed" to handle presets that a hard key was no longer deemed required. GM was counting on the VR system to take many of these functions away.

On a side note, I have seen a new prototype set-up GM is working on that is hardkey/menu driven on the wheel and VERY intuitive to use.

Re: Nav/Audio Scan Presets (Navigation System)

Yeah, I think that they didn't really think through the voice recognition that much, as well as which keys to put on the steering wheel. Seek is not needed on the steering wheel as much as preset changing is. If you're limited to four buttons, they should be: volume up, volume down, source change, and preset change.

How is the VR in the STS? In the SRX, it's next to useless -- if there's any ambient road noise (i.e., if you're traveling over 50 mph, say), it never understands you properly. Interestingly, the Onstar always does . . .

Re: Nav/Audio Scan Presets (Navigation System)

There are many who have complained of poor VR with the STS. OnStar uses a seperate module that is not linked to the NAV Disc but there are others who have had probs there too (especially with saying two...).

Since the SRX and STS share the same steering hardkeys we are both in the same boat with the current allignment.
