    Adding Adaptive Cruise Control

    Hi!

So, with some input (and the projector) from 1BadCadSTS, i'm going to be putting the HUD in my car in the next week or two. In the process, i ran across adaptive cruise control, and realized that the module is only power and then high speed GMLAN (aka, 4 wires). I'm hoping that maybe Daddler (Did i spell that right?) can give me some input on how possible this would be... There's two modules on eBay for a decent price right now, and if i can get confirmation that installing the Splice Pack that would be there for the module, and then a twisted pair of data lines, and some power, and a trip to the dealer, that this would work, that would be nice.

Also curious if anyone knows if the mounting hardware to mount the radar to is already there. If this is a "bolt on, wire up, turn on" upgrade, i am ALL for it, as i do a lot of city driving, and ACC would be awesome. I figure worst case is i buy the radar, can't make it work, and then sell it again, but i'd like to have some kind of positive hope before dropping that much money on a little radar gun

Also, from a computer/programming standpoint, would it be at all possible to put the six speed transmission in my car? I figure the 5 speed will likely die again, and if i can put a six speed in and then do some tweaking to the shift tables to make it work, that'd be a much better option. I'm sure it would require a different TCM, but judging by the GMLAN layout, it shouldn't be hard to wire the different TCM in, and the LAN should just work... Not sure what data the TCM gets from the ECM, though, and not sure if the ECM will complain/know about the extra gear.

Methinks you should do a LOT of research before buying your parts.

I'm walking him through the HUD install. Mine works 100%. The acc is where he's on his own.

    Well not *100%*....
Doesn't show the set cruise speed in the HUD and unless you get the IPM reprogrammed to say you have a HUD (and lose the mph display in the DIC) you won't be able to reset the odometer trip meters any longer after changing out the controller to be able to adjust the HUD.

A minor annoyance. Nothing that detracts from the HUD as is.

And I can reset my trip by yanking the cluster fuse :-p

After changing the IPM, shouldn't the Trip Odometer Reset change to the w' ACC method, (i.e. press & hold the Odometer control button).

If you don't change IPM to HUD = yes then you can't reset trip meter.

I toggled my HUD option off in the IPM and lost the reset function.

Would ACC even work w/o HUD? Even if it would, the feature/function would be significantly impaired.

I strongly suspect not since this is the only way to adjust following gap. The inability to adjust this could create a safety issue I'm sure GM doesn't want to own. ACC isn't active without the HUD being on. I'm sure this is the case when it doesn't see the module.

    Re: Adding Adaptive Cruise Control

Hi! Sorry for the late reply.

I'm sure my local Cadillac dealer wouldn't be willing to touch the IPM and attempt to manually adjust things with the Tech 2, so do you guys know of a dealer/shop/person nearish Mississippi that would? And would reprogramming the IPM get the set cruise speed to display? (Minor deal, but am curious if it's possible)

    Re: Adding Adaptive Cruise Control

Likely you'd have to set the IPM to have ACC to show there and disable the cluster cruise indicator. I tried to disable ACC in the IPM on mine and it activated the cluster cruise light during startup but it disabled my cruise control completely.

    Re: Adding Adaptive Cruise Control

Yeah, that one is a bit silly. I like the DIC display but with HUD, I suppose it's redundant.

Likewise, why did they deactivate the green cruise-control indicator just because a car has the HUD?

The third one is the deletion of the mirror compass with the Nav option. Why?

    Because they can!

    Re: Adding Adaptive Cruise Control

I can see the cruise icon being gone as the HUD shows the set speed which is more accurate than just the simple cruise icon.
I miss having the mirror compass.
You could argue that the speedo is redundant when you have the HUD and the tach is as well if you are in sport / manual mode.

    ...yeah...dito, I missed it, too...
...that's why I changed the (export) stock auto-dim mirror to a compass equipped part...
...maybe a little redundant...but a nice gadget to have...
