    Hi guys

    Ho boy! having trouble with the new DVD map pn-22820294 (that I finally torrented), I have it on a DL-DVD but the nav. doesn't see it as a DVD map, I think I need an update of the nav system, and with the research I did I think the update can be done with an other DVD that asks for a CODE... or I go to the dealer and pay lots of $$$

    I'M screwed...

    I'll just use my phone

    You have to go to the dealer and have the nav firmware update performed.

    The update also improves Bluetooth and other Nav performance. Most dealers will do the job for 1-hour labor; well worth it, IMHO.

    Re: 2005 STS maintenance

    Hi EChas3 and Guy.S (and thank you both for the reply)

    EChas3 you mentioned something about a Bluetooth (and other Nav performance)???

    Do by any chance the update will make my Cady's bluetooth play music from my phone??? (now it only receives/send calls)... and what else???

    I can buy a 50$ Bluetooth to RCA adapter, hide it in the console and pretend that the car streams music to my sound system...

    I need convincing... Cause DEALERS are like Micro$$oft, (well you need that at 99.95$ to make this work at 189.95$, etc...) AND YOU DOWNLOADED AN ILLEGAL COPY OF THE 2012 DVD NAVIGATION DISK!!!! hoooo! THAT WILL COST YOU A LICENSE/CODE buddy... 199.95$

    Any body out there got a way with it??? (between you and me, having the GPS work is to flash/working the 9 year old toy) I don't want to pay for something that is all ready working on my phone or for FREE or on Google with 4G and my laptop...

    I just want to exploit all the possibilities of an old navigation system for free just like an old computer with LINUX

    You will not be able to stream audio with the nav update. Buy the adapter like you mentioned.

    I agree with Guy.

    But I do not support stealing licensed software, either. If you don't like the price, do without.

    Re: 2005 STS maintenance

    Hi Echas3, I don't want to offend licensing software (I work with it every day) it's my bread and butter, I'm a network and server specialist so I'm 110% in favour to pay full pricing for new development of new technology updates, but when it comes to a 10 year old technology that still keep a high price for updates..., Sorry but I feel like hacking it... they should just stop the updates and let it open source for development to geeks like me. (cause the 2005 GPS really sucks even with the new pirated update) compared to a 2013 I Phone.

    With a complete open source schematic and reverse engineering, people could hack/perfect the system and GM could learn from this and (apply/prevent) the best (good/bad) modifications to future systems...

    On the other hand, the more I hack it the more I find its limitations and the less I put effort in it, so I'll just use my phone or the gas station for directions

    Don't get me wrong, I really ADORE the Bose sound system, It's almost better that the one in my living room.. the only thing missing is a full windshield heads up 3D display for movies ha ha!

    Cheers everyone!

    2005 STS maintenance

    They'll never go open source on it.
    I've toyed with the idea of opening the unit and trying to locate serial or maybe even a jtag port pinout to see if there was anything we could do with it.

    Re: 2005 STS maintenance

    Hi yall!

    this evening was the perfect time to try and find the cut off speed of my Cady on a 8Km (5Milles) straight road between my neighbour town and mine, I always do that with my cars once just for the kicks and to find out the cut off speed, usually all the cars I had in the past was around 160-180Kmh (100-112Mph) my Probe, my Taurus HO, my Buick, etc...

    So I tested the 6 trombone symphony Cady... (usually in the respectable speed limit 90Kmh (56Mph) it takes a full 4 minutes to travel the distance), I gently floored and let the engine rumble and it came up to 160Kmh in seconds, than I realised it shifted an other gear??? (RPM was at 4K) and I felt it accelerating, so I switched to MPH and it was still at 160 (cause that's the odo's limit), I did the 5 miles in less than 2 minutes with a top speed of about (I think) was 270Kmh (with the feeling of past friends muscle cars that I tried at 178Mph) Camaro, Corvet, Challanger, etc...

    WTF is the cut off speed of this beast (BTW I named her Christine ha ha!), I chickened out when I realised I was entering the 30Mph zone of my town...

    What an experience!!! this car was rebuilt by a race car driver and body shop owner so I think it is chipped...

    If you tell me that this is normal, well I'll just have to find a longer stretch of road somewhere (without TROOPERS... I'm plugged) and try it again

    Re: 2005 STS maintenance

    The limiter is set based on the original equipment tires; fleet & rental cars are usually set to 112 MPH in the states. It can be reset but may take more than a Tech II & know-how. I believe the theoretical aerodynamic maximum of the V8 is reputed to be 168MPH.

    What tires are specified on the sticker on your drivers door frame?

    Cool I'm still learning thanks to you EChas3

    I never noticed that sticker? it's not on the door though, it's on the inside of the car's door frame near the ketch... and this is what it say

    Front = P235/50R17
    Rear = P255/45R17
    Spar = T145/70R17

    But when I look at what is on at the moment all 4 tires are 235/50R18 37H (no P in front of the number) Euro-metric ???
    And my winter tires are all P215/55R18 94T they have there own chrome mag rims

    Tell me more, this Padawan wants to know more...

    Re: 2005 STS maintenance

    Ya and the number in front (I think KRSTS) is thread ware, am I wrong? the higher the number the higher the ware... 94 for winter and 37 for summer (the higher the number, the softer/stickyer the rubber is on ice)???
    My winter tires has WALL NUT SHELL crumbs in them (advertised on the side wall)... is that GOOD!!??

    Canadians will make anything good SELL, Americans will sell ANYTHING ha ha!

    Re: 2005 STS maintenance

    Some member posted the tire ratings & limiter settings a long while ago. My AWD 1SG came with crappy Michelin MXM W-rated tires; if memory serves the limiter will kick in before 150, which really has no interest for me in this car. It's my daily driver and won't see much track-time.

    A German member once posted his autobahn details. I think Euro-export models are red-line limited. I know I've never seen my gages pointing that far to the right!

    ----------

    It's the letter-rating to look for; but the ratings aren't proportionate.

    Re: 2005 STS maintenance

    Thanks for the last post EChas3...

    I will find the cut off speed of this car, with new synthetic oil no matter what... and if I don't, just send flours to my grave

    An other thing I must get use to is "Rear Wheel Drive... in the summer is grate but IN Quebec WHITER!!!! ON ICE!!! etc... I sense I'm gonna hate that, but one of my mechanic tells me that it will be an adaptation but not a full learning

    Hasta la proxima amigo!
