    2007 STS traction control

My 07 STS' traction control comes on periodically, and my car will move a bit slower for a few seconds. Anyone have an idea why this happens?

    Thanks

    Re: 2007 STS traction control

When does it come on? Is it completely random? T/C retards timing and will cause power loss to prevent further slippage, that part is working as designed. But, if it is activating itself for no reason there's an issue. The T/C system gets readings from each wheel speed sensor, they reside in each of the hub assemblies so my guess would be an intermittently failing wheel speed sensor. The tricky part will be figuring out which one as you'll need to replace the entire hub assembly.

No codes? Mine was doing the same thing, but it threw codes for the left rear WSS. Random low speed ABS actuation along with traction and stability control issues.

Does your code reader display anything other than engine codes? It takes special stuff to read ABS, body, and other system codes. You need a TECHII or something like AutoEnginuity to get the job done.

most can only read power train codes, you'll need one that can read chasis codes.

Mine does it sometimes when I'm turning and I hit a bump at the same time. It's done it since I got it, but its fairly rare for me.

I would consider that normal as doing so is giving off a false slip reading to the wheel speed sensor(s). If you're driving straight on a smooth road and it randomly kicks in, you got issues.

    Re: 2007 STS traction control

My wife's car did this. It was worse on right turns & on rough roads.

A damp on-ramp could be downright dangerous, despite traction and stability control.

The cause... rock-hard Michelin Energy tires.

    I'd try new shoes.

    Re: 2007 STS traction control

Just had a thought on this. Are you using stock wheels/tires? I ask because if the outside diameter of aftermarket wheels/tires is smaller than original it may trigger TC to engage as it thinks you're slipping due to the higher amount of revolutions.

    Re: 2007 STS traction control

After replacing the hub assembly & wheel speed sensor the ABS valve & module might not be so bad.

Any other signs of bearing issues? They aren't uncommon with the STS. Try some turns in a smooth quiet parking lot with the windows down. Any bearing noise?

If on right turns, suspect LR hub.
