06 STS can I add Aftermarket Radio

Hello I'm new to forum...I have 06 STS V6 without navi..I want to add a aftermarket tv radio into the car. But it seems as if the radio controls all of personalized functions (memory seats, chime, fob info etc) .Can I add TV radio n keep factory for my personal functions ???? Or do I just have to get factory Navi (because I need link to hook up ipod or mp3 player)????

Or relocate the stock head unit into the trunk and go aftermarket up front. It's not going to be easy / simple but it's doable.

iSimple audio gateway is a newer replacement to the upac-STS. It will let you connect aux audio to the XM source.

Relocating the head unit is a PITA. But so worth it in the end!!!

Re: 06 STS can I add Aftermarket Radio

If I had the base radio, I sure wouldn't bother upgrading to the Nav head-end only to put it in the trunk! I'd just add the aftermarket head-end. With any luck, the base radio has XM and you could play it all through that audio, anyway.

Unless you're talented with car A/V, have a professional handle it. The STS isn't like most cars. Cadillac and Bose have their own ways.

I agree. I wouldn't add stock nav just to put it in the trunk.
I'd probably try to modify the base radio to keep the controls for personalization like the SRX / CTS guys had to do for the DIC retention before I'd move it to the trunk and would remove the ashtray and lower the hvac controls and put in a double din screen in the opening.

It's not exactly plug and play. There is a Huge thread about it.
I think you can use the iSimple / upac STS with the base radio... You just have to have the XM option on the car.

Re: 06 STS can I add Aftermarket Radio

If your base radio has XM, that's the way 'in'. While adding the Nav can be a matter of purchase & plug-in, the RCA jacks you could plug into aren't all that easy to find. Video cuts out when in motion without a Lockpick, but that should really only be for the passengers anyway. Just the cost to get a dealer to 'unlock' Theftlock on a used Nav would pay the fee for many basic installations.

Without a significant amount of more work, a Nav head end by itself doesn't get you a phone call integration, the extra speakers or turn-by-turn directions. Without HUD, you will probably use your phone a lot more than the STS Nav. The VR is no real loss, anyway.

Ive done the factory Nav swap on both my 07 and my 08 and it was a plug in play. On the 07 i did not have full functionality of my controls on my steering wheel but when this was done to my 08 all controls worked fine. Keep in mind that you will have to add a gps antenna and purchase a Nav disc. If you have any questions pm me. Good luck
