    Shifter lamp

Does anyone know if the lamp the lights up the PRNDL on the shifter is just a bulb or if you have to order the whole part?

    Thanks,

    Max

It is a bulb (P/N: 89027003), and it is expensive!

Confirm the part with your dealer because the parts catalog lists one for 05-06 and the one for 06 I listed above. They are different part numbers and different prices (although both are ridiculously expensive).

The 05-06 bulbs are only expensive due to a rubbery blue coating that is put on them. They are otherwise a very common item. Take the burnt out bulb(s) to an auto parts store and match it. Transfer the rubber coating to the new bulb. Mine peeled off in 2 pieces, but stuck to the new bulb very well.

    -Open the console lid
-Pull the plastic trim surround up and out
-Carefully remove the chrome trim at the base of the shift knob by prying at the seam facing you
-Loosen the set screw (either allen or torx, can't remember) that is now exposed and remove the shift knob and trim from the shaft
-Remove the wood trim. It is not fastened.

From here I'm a little fuzzy, but it will be obvious. I believe you have to remove the chrome shift selector housing, which is held by four phillips screws inserted horizontally. Very little clearance here.
Once you have access to the lights, do what I posted earlier.

Thanks for the reply! I remember that bulb from my previous design STS but you couldn't order it separately. You had to order the whole wire harness to get it. I also remember rolling the blue film off the old bulb & then rolling it back down the new aftermarked bulb, almost like a condom! lol

    Re: Shifter lamp

I did it today on my own... below steps... as done by me

remove console trim. little force is ok (plastic is covered with metalic clips
I recommend removing the ashtray. held by 4 T screws
pull out the side flexible trim little bit only.
remove your knob. pull out the right side, then the lower ring then the other half.
remove the center console plastic (held by 2 clips with metal). open your armrest box to remove it completely
remove the center console wood part
remove the knob with star screwdriver.
unclip the metallic gear decoration (2 each side)
    remove the transparent gears letters.
2 bulbs are there... pull them out gently. take care not to break them.
remove the blue plastic cover on the bulbs. and install them bk on your new bulbs.

    and retrofit bk everything. done.

I don't remember what part number, but I went to Autozone (any place will do) and just grabbed what appeared physically to be the same bulb albeit a slightly higher wattage.
