    2009 STS seat problems!

My 2009 STS seat is falling apart! The "outboard" panel that has the seat controls mounted in it has come off of the seat proper and is only held in place by the wires from the switches to the motors. My car has a "bumper-to-bumper" warranty from GMAC (Major Guard) but the local dealer says this is not covered...this is considered trim.

I am having problems believing this! First I believe that this is a potential safety hazard! Trying to adjust the seat while driving is very distracting and can be 'shocking' if I am not careful! Secondly, someday this panel is going to get caught in the door when I close it and then I will just have a pile of switches dangling in air!

Any ideas on how to convince Cadillac to stand behind their Major Guard Warranty would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think that trim panel is in the $30 range.

You're not qualified to make that assumption. Your power seat is perfect or whatever.

One of the few parts that are inexpensive from Cadillac - under $20

Arguably that piece, since it contains the switches (holding them in place) is not trim; it is a functional adherent to the seat controls. Having said that, if you can't get satisfaction from the dealer (wouldn't think he'd balk at a cheap fix), I would investigate fixing it myself or buying the piece.

I really don't think you'll successfully argue that this piece isn't trim. I also have the GM extended warranty and it is not covered. The last time I purchased this part at a US GM Dealership it was $13.39 retail. Unless you only make about $0.75/hour, it isn't worth your time and effort to argue with them over such a small amount.

    Re: 2009 STS seat problems!

I can understand where the OP's concern comes from. In reality, how many trim pieces are this inexpensive? Typically I would have expected to pay many times the amount I did for this part. I was extremely surprised at how inexpensive this was, given what I've spent on similar sized and similarly complex trim parts.
