Does navigation screen need to warm up?

I have a 2008 STS and when I start and drive the car in the morning the navigation display is almost invisible, the brightness control has no effect. Later, when the car has been driven the display is fine. Since the outside temperature here is around freezing does the display have to warm up to be readable?

I have the same problem on my 2011. Dealer found an open circuit in the radio and ordered a new one under warranty.

It's part of the old LCD technology used as it has a cfl backlight. It has to warm up.

All lcd screens have to warm up if they have been out in cold temperatures.

When I let my car sit for several days in the garage, temp in the garage is usually in the upper 50's, to lower 60's the screen takes a while to warm up at those temps. Reminds me of a 40's tube radio.

Just wait to see how long it takes to warm up in the northern states where we hit -20 or worse air temp...
It takes a good amount of time to get anywhere.

Do you park in a garage? I start mine in the garage and the auto lights turn on. That dims the NAV screen. I can see the screen better after I pull out into the sun light and the auto lights turn off.

Yeah the only time it's not in a garage is when it's at the dealer or at the office. But as I understand tech intimately it doesn't bother me.

Also, there is a Brightness control for the screen, Press CONFIG,
then press the ICON that looks like a screen.
One setting for Daytime, and one setting for Nightime.Adjust accordingly.
    Happy Motoring.

    ^ This

While LCD needs warm up time for good color display, not to the point rendering the screen "almost invisible"; and I have started the car in -20F

The car is parked outside and when it's first started the screen is almost invisible with the sun shining on it; I tried changing the settings from auto to day and night with no effect. Thanks for the replies, sounds like some warm up is normal in the cold weather.

It's not "normal", per se. When this happens - is your speedometer also dimmer than usual?
