The number on the fob doesn't really mean anything. It's nice to have a 1 and a 2 so you can tell them apart. You can just attach a tag to the key ring and write a number on it so you can differentiate.

As for how the car is recognizing the fobs.. Two fobs can't be recognized as fob 2, or fob 1. Or 3 or 4 for that matter. (Up to 4 fobs can be mated to the car.) Basically, let's assume one of them is set as fob 1 and the other is fob 2. Try doing a remote start with both fobs. Can they both start the car by remote? If so, one is set as fob 1 and the other as fob 2. Fobs that are set as 3 or 4 can't remote start the car so if they don't work, that is a possibility and the fobs may have to be reprogrammed BUT.. there are plenty of other conditions that can cause remote start not to work so we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Bottom line, see if the remote start works. Assuming they work on both, you have your 1 and 2 fob, regardless of what is printed on the actual fob.

    Hey Cadillacacacacacac,

It looks like Guy.Seminerio gave you some good advice. If you are still concerned about your key fobs, then feel free to send me a PM with your VIN and contact info. I would be more than happy to contact your dealership if needed. If you cannot send a PM, email me at socialmedia@gm.com.

If you want one fob to say #1 on it to identify it without using a sticker or something, just get a used #1 on eBay, and swap your fob internals into it.

The remote start will not function unless it is activated by turning it on in the "driver personalization system".
And remember, after turning it on, scroll up to "store driver settings", press button, two beeps, your done.
And of course, the correct sequence is: Press the lock button first, then immediately press and hold the start button for at least three seconds or until the turn signals flash.
I've done this from over 50 feet away, through cinder block wall, unseen. Works great.

If you have the nav there's no need to confirm your changes once you select them. If not, what ^^^ he said.

Yeah I've done it from VERY far away through a garage many times.

The factory set is default on, but can be switched off, that is why I gave my view.
The Personal Settings Menu asks you at the start to identify yourself as either driver 1 or driver 2. When you set things up, steering wheel, mirrors, seats, etc., it does not prompt you to save the settings, which I find strange.
If you leave the menu, the things you have set are not remembered.

And I wish the remote had a simple light to tell you it is running when you cannot see the car.
I put an after-market remote in an old Buick I had that had that feature.

When the car was brought in to the dealer it did not have the second key. They gave me a new one but it was never programed...pretty simple fix.

I'm glad someone picked up on it.

Also this car gets cooler by the second!!!!
