    Re: Water pump tensioner

Well, no one else seems to want to field this question, I will.
First blacmarv, you don't tell us the motor you have.
Nor do you tell us the year.
A pulley change is a pretty straight forward affair, take photos as you go to remind yourself where things go when you button up.
Also, plan on having new serpentine belts, no sense putting back on the old ones.
    But more important, why?
Why are you replacing this pulley?

Daddy_o it's a 2005 3.6 and I'm getting a horrible noise in the engine so I'm thinking either the water pump or the tensioner I haven't been driving the car due to the noise for fear of doing more damage any help would be awesome

Have you checked the engine oil. This will make a noise when its low on oil. Danny

Bingo, keep a eye on the oil level. Some/most V-6 will drink oil. How many qt. low was it. Danny

I believe it - You might want to read the owner's manual and open the hood every week or so ...................... There's an engine in there !!!

    Re: Water pump tensioner

Glad to hear you solved the problem. I had a 3.6 in a CTS that never drank a drop.
But I am going to post a new OP about my new STS oil problem that has me worried.
    Stay tuned.

    Re: Water pump tensioner

Sadly, 3.6s drinking oil is common. Mine certainly pulls some into the PCV system, and you can smell it for a few seconds when the car is started cold, but it's not enough to make any real difference over an oil change interval. Some will go through a quart every 500 miles. Some won't drink any.

The PCV system is one part of the problem. Oil foaming leads to other issues.
