That's most likely a problem with the wiring or membrane switches on the left side of the steering wheel, where those buttons are.

does it ever say "RADAR CRUISE NOT READY"?
    Or rather did it ever?

When i was buying my car the cruise was totally dead, no messages, nothing.
Turned out the multifunction lever was bad, my car has had this fail twice and I think it is doing it again as my cruise died again last night, a quick reboot of the car got it going again but it will get to the point where it just stops again.

Maybe you just dont know how to use cruise control...

R(On): Move to this position to turn on the system.
+ (Resume/Accelerate): Move to this position to
make the vehicle resume a previously set speed or
to accelerate when cruise is already active.
T(Set/Decrease): Press this button to set the
speed or to decrease the speed when cruise
    is already active.
With cruise control, a speed of about 25 mph
(40 km/h) or more can be maintained without
keeping your foot on the accelerator. This
can really help on long trips. Cruise control does
not work at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h).
If your vehicle is in cruise control when the
Traction Control System (TCS) begins to limit
wheel spin, the cruise control will automatically
disengage. See Traction Control System (TCS) on
page 323 and StabiliTrak® System on page 326.
When road conditions allow you to safely use
it again, you may turn the cruise control back on.
    1. Move the cruise control switch to on.
    2. Get up to the speed desired.
    3. Press in the set button at the end of the lever
    and release it.
    4. Take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
    This light on the
    instrument panel cluster
    will come on while
    cruise control is on.
    Reducing Speed While Using Cruise
    Control
There are two ways to reduce your speed while
    using cruise control:
    • Press in the button at the end of the lever until
you reach the lower speed desired, then
    release it.
    • To slow down in very small amounts, briefly
press the set button. Each time you do this,
you will go about 1 mph (1.6 km/h) slower.
    Passing Another Vehicle While Using
    Cruise Control
Use the accelerator pedal to increase your speed.
When you take your foot off the pedal, the
vehicle will slow down to the cruise control speed
    you set earlier.
    Using Cruise Control on Hills
How well the cruise control works on hills depends
upon the vehicle speed, load, and the steepness of
the hills. When going up steep hills, you might have
to step on the accelerator pedal to maintain the
vehicle’s speed. When going downhill, you might
have to brake to keep the vehicle’s speed down.
Applying the brake will turn off the cruise control. If
you need to apply the brake due to the grade of the
downhill slope, you might not want to attempt to use
    your cruise control feature.
    Ending Cruise Control
To end a cruise control session, step lightly on the
    brake pedal.
Stepping on the brake pedal will end the current
cruise control session only. Move the cruise control
switch to off to turn off the system completely.
    Erasing Speed Memory
When you turn off the cruise control or the
ignition, the cruise control set speed memory
    is erased.

Re: 06 sts Adaptive cruise control / heated steering wheel not working help

From day one, my cruise control becomes inoperative for no apparent reason. Though, it always dies when I am using it to speed up and slow down numerous times in a short period of time.

I have to pull over, turn the car off and restart.

It's annoying but it doesn't happen often. I've learned to play less with the cruise control.

Might be a flaky multifunction lever like mine they are about $60 at the caddy dealer for the part.
Mine has been replaced twice, and probably will be again on Monday as it has started acting up again.

I got to the point where I would just reboot the car while driving, get to a point where nobody is behind you and you have enough speed built up to not slow way down. Pop to N turn off engine, lightly touch the brake and restart car, move to D again and continue along your way and set the cruise.

    Sitting at the dealer now.
This one is an exclusive caddy dealer (they used to do Saab as well but they don't exist any longer) and apparently they only offer loaners to owners still under GM warranty so here I sit waiting.
They are going to start from "square one" this time and will not tell the service tech about any of the car's service history from the other dealers. That seems a bit odd to me but whatever I guess.
I'm not feeling too hopeful as the car was in the back for a few mins and the service writer asks me if I have changed the front caddy logo out to a different one ... It's got the stock grille and stock 08+ ACC radar dome.

Damnit I was intending to go to key for my next service visit.
I'm at Morries Cadillac Saab but just Cadillac now. It used to be Anderson Cadillac back in the day. Came here as it was the only dealer I could think of at the time as this is where my parents got their 04 SRX and it seemed like we had a decent experience ... Completely spaced on Key Cadillac.

Still sitting here btw. Probably will be until around 5 or later at this rate.
They aren't willing to touch anything cruise related. As they cannot reproduce issue nor are they finding any codes. They are telling me that I will have to drive in during this condition before they will be able to do anything.

They are changing the bad LF TPMS and fixing an oil leak around the rear driver side axle under my service contract.

They said there is play in the right rear hub but not enough that a warranty would cover it (apparently GM spec says 1/4" of play needed) and they want to do the rear diff vent mod for around $500 as the side of the diff is wet.

I really really have to remember to go to key next time.

Re: 06 sts Adaptive cruise control / heated steering wheel not working help

I've had the Radar Cruise go not ready a few times. Once was just because is was covered with heavy wet snow. What was I trying it for, anyway?

Another time was after 30 minutes of extremely heavy rain. I figure some water worked its way into a connector and had it persisted, I was under warranty, so I would have had a dealer disassemble the wiring and look for a miss-joined connector or the like.

Just a couple days ago, I think some water froze on (under?) the radar dome cover and it happened again. The car was getting caked with salt, anyway. It's looking my like the picture again, now. I've found the cruise to be amazingly tolerant of poor conditions. I've heard the SONAR-based ones aren't nearly as reliable.
