do we know that the correct amount of oil was put in at the last oil change?

wouldn't be the first time someone put in 5 or 6 quarts in a northstar thinking that was correct

I always do the changes on all our cars. 7.5 qrts went in prefilled the filter too. No clue where it all went.

This was learned after my fathers 93 ETC blew up 1k miles after a jiffy lube oil change. Found no oil in it. Didn't have any proof though.

I offer my quite late condolences to your father's 93 ETC. I still fondly miss my 93 STS. They were beautiful and luxurious vehicles.

I'm surprised at how many modern vehicles don't have the oil level sensor.

My 07 Civic didn't have one, only kept it six months after I found out it ate oil. 4.5qt capacity, 2.5 qts to fill it after 2000 miles in my possession. I hated that car so it was a good reason to get rid of it.

My co-workers has a 2012 Sonata, he got a new engine last month after he burned through 2 quarts of oil in 1000 miles. No warning, just checked it a couple weeks after he bought it and found no oil on the dipstick.

I check my Northstars pretty religiously. Having 3 versions of the FWD engine I know those things love oil in their diet. I'm curious now if my V has the oil level sensor.

When all else fails, read the owner's manual.

99% sure the Vs do as the level sensor is called the level and temp sensor in the SM. I believe all Vs list the Oil Pressure and Trans and Oil temps on the DIC right?

I've seen the temp in the DIC for the V but I don't recall seeing the oil pressure in the DIC.
Sure would be nice if the V and 1SG trim levels got an uplevel instrument cluster with some extra analog gauges, like boost pressure (V only, for 1SG put something like MRC stiffness gauge or something ), Oil pressure, perhaps a voltmeter to replace the digital one.

    Pins are the same.

I know if you use an 05-06 cluster on an 07 the sport and manual shift modes will not display properly this is cue to the 5 speed vs 6 speed but will work and function fine. I would assume issues with an 6 speed trans cluster on a 5 speed car.

I'd like to have the V options from the DIC in the 1SG even in its current form (less boost gauge obviously).

I've asked him a couple times. He said he will give it a shot one of these days.

And you've found the owner's manuals to be 100% correct, 100% of the time in all your vehicles?

Some things you have to verify through other means.

    Yes they do, nice features.

Sure would be nice as someone else suggested to have an upgraded IPC with some analog gauges for those features.

So this thread reminded me to check my oil (I haven't in a few months) as far as I can tell on the dipstick it "doesn't use a drop". I think OLM is near 70% right now and I've probably gone 3-5k on this change so far.

Mine was 2 qts low Time to check it more often. Been roughly 5-6k since I changed it. I thought for sure I had checked recently, guess not. OLM is at about 45%.
