    Headlight bulb replacement

Yesterday I noticed that the small "bullet" style light in one of my headlights isn't working. Anybody know what it's calked. Is it the daytime running lamp or something. I don't really want to pull the bumper off myself. How much does is cost to have done at a dealership? Thanks!

It's called a "city light" but for some reason people here call it a "peanut light".

Replacement calls for removal of the front bumper and wheels and liners. So at a dealer will be expensive as they will do it by the book.

Some of us will let them burn out and never replace them. Some try LEDs but have issues with some of them failing due to cheap replacements. Others that replace them aren't able to get the ones that are tinted to match the HIDs.

I have one out also, so my plan is to wait until one of the headlamps burn out, then replace them all at the same time.

That probably won't happen for years.

Oh crap sorry that's only if you have HIDs.

    Re: Headlight bulb replacement

I let both of those stupid bulbs go out and I don't think I'll ever replace them...In my CTS you could get to them from the wheel well, there was a screw on cap on the bottom of the headlight housing. I refuse to take off my bumper for those little bulbs. If/when an HID or high beam goes out I'll think about it, and LEDs will be going in when that occurs.

I'm doing the same here. LEDs will be obtained if / when something more important goes out in the headlight (or if the time comes when I proactively replace the HIDs with the Osram 66144 CBIs which should be more powerful than the OEM phillips lamps).

Technically if your county has inspection testing your car will fail for having those lamps out. Also they can be reached through the hood by removing the air box on the drivers side and fuse box on the passenger side.

I had LEDs and after less than a year both started flickering, I replaced with a set of "blue" 194s which the ATS uses in the dome/map lights. Very close match to the HIDs and been in for over a year without issue.

Also the heat given off by them helps dissipate any condensation in the lamps MUCH better than the LEDs did.

    Re: Headlight bulb replacement

No inpsections whatsoever here in MN so that isn't a problem at all. I think I'd rather drop the bumper than remove the air/fuse box, from what I've seen the bumper isn't terribly difficult to remove, just not doing in the dead of winter with no heated garage.

    Cool Re: Headlight bulb replacement

Spent the money to get the replacement bulbs from Cadillac, it was blue tinted, I wanted them to
retain the same color as the Headlights, I replaced one, and almost immediately the other one
went out,So i "HAD" to replace them both, however, the color really dis-appointed me greatly,
they were very low on the kelvin scale and not near the 5000 K, I wanted.
They are almost incandescent in color.I am NOT going to go thru that again !
BTW they cost $ 9.89 each, including tax, I have an 06, So when I replaced them, they both
leaked water, I had to go into the covers , AGAIN, this time i used Permatex, NON HARDENING.
on both sides of the gasket, YES, it's messy, but necessary to waterproof the covers.
Please do NOT think the gasket will seal, by itself, it won't !
    They have NOT leaked since.
    Happy Motoring.
